It’s that time again! On the morning of Tuesday, November 6, we’ll be conducting maintenance in order to reset the Diablo II ladder. We anticipate the realms could be down for up to six hours, and during that time all existing ladder characters will be converted to non-ladder. All characters and items being converted to non-ladder will remain intact, but once converted these characters will no longer have access to ladder content such as creating ladder-only rune words.

This ladder reset, like all those before it, creates a clean slate where all ladder characters begin at level 1 with no previous items to help them. To participate, simply wait until the Diablo II realms return to service on November 6, log in to Battle.net, and tick the “Ladder Character” checkbox when creating a new character. You can track ladder character leveling progress by clicking on the Ladder button from the main Diablo II in-game Battle.net interface.

For more information on ladder characters please visit the Arreat Summit at http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/basics/charactertypes.shtml

Thank you, Kaviax for the heads up. Maybe this time I can be motivated to play a single character past Nightmare.

Try and get all those cool names that you've always wanted before the reset. :)

Q u o t e:
All characters and items being converted to non-ladder will remain intact

Which is to say, unlike many characters and more items that had already been converted and had remained intact for years were suddenly no longer intact after the last conducted maintenance on the realm, to which an inquiry was met with a shrug.

A pox on your ladder, and the differences between them, because were it not for that illogical difference, I would not have had to stable so many stateside while I went off to war, and they would have been safe.

You steeenking rats...

A pox, I say...

If you refer to 4th Dimensions post....

When the realm character data was transferred during a hardware changeover things were lost. Any character that was "expired" could not be revived. This caught some people off guard who had been utilising the expired character revival so long as somebody else had not taken the name. Many gear mules with exotic names that had years worth of gear were snuffed.

This sort of request goes hand-in-hand with all the other crap that was put into the abortion of D3.

I've been waiting for this reset very patiently since the last one... when I found a Tyrael's Might for the first time (in Ancient Tunnels), went into town, placed it on my character to see what it looked like, and the moment I placed it on, the screen said "Diablo walks the earth.". I was like O_O, and went off to kill him. I got him to 1% life, and then the game crashed. I lost my Tyrael's Might due to the game not saving when it suddenly crashes, and did not get to have the Annihilus Unique Small Charm I would have had were the game not to crash either. Keep in mind that this was in the very beginning of the season, about 1-2 weeks into it. I stopped playing D2 that day, and have been waiting ever so patiently for a fresh start. One that isn't going to rip my pride and joy out of me, and make me feel like the most unlucky soul out there.

You are not unlucky. Crashes after Diablo walks are so common that I'd wager they are the norm and not the exception. Five bucks says that it will happen again after this reset. =\

Hey, the people behind the item sites gotta keep rolling in their profits somehow, even if it means crashing servers so the regular joe can't get an event-only item that require dozens of Stones of Dupedness.

By Siouxdax regarding JSP:

A crash happening after "Diablo walks the earth." is common... yes indeed, but a crash due to said method after finding a Tyrael's Might for the 1st time out of playing this game for over a DECADE, placing it on my character only to have Diablo Clone spawn the EXACT moment I place the item in the armor slot, and then losing it to this "common" crash (which only happened to me once in the history of me playing this game during that time unfortunately) is about the probability of being struck by lightning 10 times in the same place. That "is" unlucky! There's no denying that fact.

I've played for a like amount of time and silly things have happened to me. The full spectrum of elation to rage enduced vein popping. I don't believe in luck so much as the exhaustion of probability due to exposure.

"Luck" or "probability" are merely somantics and cut from the same cloth. When boneheads cause server crashes at a rate approaching 100% I lump all my rollback losses into a category outside of variables.

That's just me though. =\

Edit: Spelling

I'll admit, it hurt to lose the Annihilus, but losing the Tyrael's Might is what provoked me to quit playing this season. I'm looking forward towards the soon to be next season. Next time I find something of good value; whether that be through means of currency, or self importance... I will make sure to exit the game after the 5 minute mark, and return to defeat Diablo Clone. I have definitely learned my lesson. ;)

I create a new game if I see the SoJ counter going. It's a crap situation but it beats having to put up with another game locking on me and then facing a rollback when I can finally log back in. For the most part other people have had no direct effect on my play over the years because I pick and choose my public games for co-op rather than runs. This one really stinks because it affects me even when playing solo.
