Possible USEAST server issue. I was logged into battle.net and was idle in a chat channel for over an hour. Diablo 2 was in windowed mode while I was browsing the internet. When I go back to the Diablo 2 window and try to create a game, a message pops up saying "Lost connection to battle.net." I am taken back to the character selection screen, and to my surprise all the characters in the account are gone, except for the character that I was logged in with.

What is going on? Did this happen to anyone else? My suggestion to everyone is don't idle in a chat channel or you may loose all your characters!

More information: I had three characters that have disappeared. There names are:

Little-Devil
Thanas_Keys
Thana_HCMuleIII

When i try to re-create these characters, I am notified that these characters already exist. So they weren't deleted, they have just disappeared from my account.

Have you tried closing and restarting D2?
I've heard that while in windowed mode, D2 acts like other window programs. rebooting should take care of this if that's the case.

Yes mine are gone as well. I had 8 characters in my selection screen a few hours ago and now I'm only left with one. I'm hoping this is just a temporary thing. If not, I may be done with this game.

Restarting Diablo 2 has no effect. This seems to be a server side issue.

They are probably trying to fix things and now its causing other issues maybe we will see a revert soon =)

I just logged on, and I'm also looking at just 1 character, out of the 8 on my one and only account, and it's not the main one, sadly.

I started playing again almost a month ago, really getting into it again after roughly 7 years of absence. :(

Same here. I left my computer for a while got the same message, and when I logged back in all my toons but the one I was log into were gone. ANd when I try to create a toon with the names of the ones that are gone it says that they exist. Please fix and give me back my toons.

seems like your chars are not staying on your accounts

lets say your a joesomebody1 and your are on line 1234 for you r account and you make a character named mytoona and its in the first slot the u u decide to make a new char called mytoonb and another called mytoonc and another called mytoond

now lets say someone els has an account on line 1233 now lets say they have 3 or 4 free slots on the character selection page

now lets see what would happen if the chars didnt save to your account after you where disconnected

I'm just frustrated that I can't really play the game right now. I had a lot of stuff on my seven other characters that I can't even access anymore. Not to mention, my brand new smiter which I was thoroughly enjoying playing as this week.

yes indeed its is a server side problem i would suggest posting the chars names you made so they can get it fixed

My characters are still gone as well. I made a support ticket explaining the whole thing, and am still waiting for a reaction.

Very frustrating. I won't even bother to play my one remaining guy, because that'll be pointless if they do a rollback or something.

Edit:

The one remaining character is the last one I played. Whatever wiped out my characters probably happened while I was playing, and the reason that character is still around is because he was saved when I exited the game.

Whelp just checked again this morning and my characters are all still gone. I might as well post the names that I can remember

If you haven't already, you might want to open a support ticket about it. That's what I did. That way you'll be sure someone at Blizzard sees the problem. (Though, 17 hours later, my ticket hasn't been acknowledged yet.)

Submitted a ticket today. Bash mentioned in the other thread that they are still investigating the issue with disappearing characters so hopefully we will get some answers or our characters soon.


The good news is that they aren't deleted, but delinked from the accounts just as the other guy said before.
