Came back to play Diablo II LoD after D3 got me in the mood but didn't fullfil my hopes. Many months since I played D2 last time. Guessing more than a year ago.
But all my characters on my online accounts are gone? Both my main account humbe and my backup account humbe2.
Last time I played D2 on battle.net, characters were not supposed to expire anymore after having been online for a given amount of time. All my characters had been playing enough to not show any expire time anymore.
Why are they gone? Does characters still expire, there's just no expire time warning anymore? Does all characters expire if account is not used for a given amount of time. If so how long?
Or is there a bug or a fault or something that has removed all my characters? If so, can they be restored? (Don't remember the names of them, but I guess you should be able to know that based on my account info.)
Sad to invest time and not being able to continue later.

Characters will still expire after 90 days of inactivity. The message that they are about to expire only appears when they have 10 days remaining before they will expire.
Once expired, they can be reactivated by logging in to them unless someone else claims the name. If someone else creates a new character with the same name as an expired character, then the expired character is overwritten.
Please keep your characters active every 90 days to make sure this does not happen. Or you could pick really bizarre names and hope no one picks the name after you.
