There have been bots capable of reading capatchas out there for many years. Every now and then I come across capatchas that I have to enter 10 times until I get it right because of ambigious font where things like I L and 1 all look the same or scribbles over the picture leave too many possibilities, I think it would be pointless.

Last time it went down at about 9:00 am Pacific, and came back up sometime between 2:30 and 3:30 pm Pacific.

That would be 5:00 pm to about 11:00 pm for you.
