  • 0. Why SC2/BNet 2.0 fails   05/02/2011 09:49:52 PM PDT
SC2 itself definitely tends to be a repetitive and dull game, I could easily get masters league in solo and 2s/3s/4s but after playing 1-2 games I get so bored I just stop trying.

But beyond that, what really killed SC2 for me was the new Battle.net. Battle.net 1.0 is porous as hell security wise but it had lots of good things that they decided not to bring along to the new Battle.net, why I have no clue

1.) Inferior chat channels (took them months to release it), no universal commands (/f list, /stats, etc) like in BNet 1.0, no clan support (to be added as a selling point to their next expansion, it will also be inferior to BNet 1.0 clans)

2.) Lack of hard statistics. I really don't understand this one. War3 had a crapload of statistics + numbers, SC2 limits it, we are an information based society, why do they think we want LESS? They even took away the ability to view losses, LOL

3.) RT vs AT. A poor band-aid fix to the possible future problems of RT search times. Instead, it's a terrible system (for the RT players). Every game is a gamble, at Diamond+ you WILL face AT teams 70%+ of the time, and usually lose. RT is a lot about luck, but in SC2, the odds are horribly stacked against you if you have any sort of decent ELL. Doing AT is a joke, it's hilarious how often you face RT teams and obliterate them.

I remember the first few weeks of SC2, when the RT vs AT complaints came out, The blues didn't even realize that this was the case and asked for proof, eventually turning themselves around and saying that RT vs AT is their supported vision. No other word was said on the topic.

4.) Custom game listings, lol

5.) No universal ladder. Seriously, WTF? I want to know who is RANK 1 OF U.S., not who is rank 1 of Master League #87. You have to use a 3rd party website to figure that out. It's downright hilarious and no one seems to care. They finally released the almighty "Grand master league" but you still need a 3rd party website to view it and you don't know the top RT/AT players.

6.) Stuck to one localization. I have friends who are living in Europe who I can't play with on good old BNet 2.0.

7.) What did BNet 2.0 give us that was new and exciting in exchange for all these? A worthless achievement system that no one cares about.

If SC2 was run on the old Battle.net, with a universal ladder, the original (best) chat channels + clan support, tournaments, profile + statistics, I would actually enjoy playing SC2 even through it's dullness.

bnet2 could have been a glorious combination of steam and bnet1

instead it's a piece of #*!# that blizzard defends by saying "well it gets people into games so what else do you need"

Q u o t e:
We will be playing Warcraft 4 the same way people play farmville right now.

Too bad there will never be a WarCraft 4 :(

Well if they intend to relase Warcraft IV on bnet 2.0, I actually prefer it to not be released at all. A release on bnet 2.0 would ruin the game even more than wow did.

You nailed it. Battle.net 2.0 SUCKS. The chat channels are all private, and therefore, GARBAGE.

The gameplay is dull, and the units are still very imbalanced (Maruaders).

The ladder system SUCKS. There's no webpage where you can see your stats and your rank in comparison to EVERYONE else, and theres also no way anyone can view your icons (unless they look at them as your about to play a game and the screen is loading) and thats just an absolute joke. They dont even show your losses anymore. That's pathetic.

Also, because there is a choke entrance, its impossible to win, or even do anything to your oppenent until atleast mid-game.

The game is flawed and the system is flawed.

Not to mention that everyone has to play on low graphics unless they have a kick-ass computer.

And here we are on WC3, with the tournament pages not working at all, and the ladder being completely dead because it has'nt reset in 13 months.

From the looks of this, I'm having a bit of fortunality here! Why? Because of the Ormus Maiden Hero idea I've thought of, that's why! And OM is a WC3 Tavern Hero Schematic Prototype. People are saying Starcraft II's overall gameplay can become dull and boring and this is true for me for Starcraft I. This is good news for me! It means some people will be coming back for Warcraft III, after all! Now the real question is... does Blizzard wanna do anything about Starcraft II and/or Warcraft III? I'm mostly concerned about Warcraft III, the best online game I've ever played!
