I have, at least, 4 (store-bought) copies of the game and have been banned. I have NEVER used hacks or anything like that to "cheat", so can someone explain why my account was banned? I've got 4 PCs that I use at the same time, but with 4 LEGIT CDs why is there a problem?
Please help - I absolutely love the game & want to get back into it full-swing.

This account has been restricted from this realm. Try again another time.
I'd never seen this message before, so I new something was up. However, I just
tried logging-in to get the exact wording & I was able to! WooHoo!! I'm playing again!!
You gotta LOVE this game! It's frustrating at times, with all the DCs, but overall it's well
worth it.
Oh, BTW, the message actually appeared for two different accounts on two seperate PCs.
Good luck with you connections & enjoy.

What you are experiencing is a temporary ban. Blizzard has in place a program (The Warden I think is what it is called) that notices suspicious activity. On Diablo 2, The Warden is in hyper mode, and will issue a temporary ban for people who:
A) Join/Leave games rapidly
B) Jump from character to character rapidly
C) Spam channels
The common things that legitimate players do that cause this are:
A) Baal/Chaos Runs, joining and leaving these runs too fast
B) Self "Xfering" can some times cause this, happens to me all the time
C) Accidentally making games public/private, and re making them
Basically, don't join and leave games too quick, don't constantly go from the char select screen to the b.net welcome screen over and over. Make some time between leaving a game and joining a new one, and make sure to spend more than 3 minutes in 1 game. It is a pain in the butt, I know, but if it was not for this, bots would be out of control.
On a side note, make sure to not constantly connect over and over again, every time you do that you extend the duration of the temporary ban (as bots frequently tend to re check, its a good way to keep them banned longer.) These bans can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 10 days or more, but rest assured this is temporary.
For the next time you encounter this error, the best thing to do is just get off the PC, go make lunch/dinner or sit outside for about 45 minutes and try again, and if you are still temp banned, try every 1 hr 30 minutes. Hope this was of some help.
I don't see anything wrong. Perhaps when you say "banned" you mean you received a temporarily restricted message? You'd get that for jumping in and out of games quickly. Even more so if you were using multiple accounts at the same time from a single, shared IP address.

Thanks for the 'splanation - it was the very first time that I had gotten that particular notification, so I may have knee-jerked a bit. It was "OK" after about 20-30 minutes (just like someone else has predicted).
