  • 0. Temporary outage of Battle.net for SC2   07/27/2010 01:02:42 PM PDT
After installing and registering the game to my account, I attempt to login. This is the message I receive:

"There is a temporary outage of the Battle.net service. Please try again later."

Being unable to log-in means being unable to play the game. My roommate successfully logged in on his first try, while I still can't log in - which means that Battle.net is not down and it's a problem with my game or computer. I have no firewalls up, and my SC2 account is active. Why am I unable to log in to Battle.net to play Starcraft 2 and how do I fix this problem?

It's not just you, supposedly it's down for a lot of people. Is your roommate playing right now?

Yeah , my roommate registered his game last night soon after release. He has been playing for the past couple hours already. I am currently trying to reinstall the game to see if it will fix the problem. I noticed that there is at least one other thread with the same problem as me - hopefully it's just a short matter of time for a proper fix. Meanwhile I'll just watch my roommate play the game.

Q u o t e:
Does this apply Sixen for the outages? http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/106470833

The fix in that post does not work.

I just reinstalled the game, and I still get the same outage message. I'll try the password reset method now (I changed my Battle.net password an hour ago to no avail).

After waiting for 50 minutes after password reset, logging in still does not work (same problem). Looks like I'll have to wait for a real fix.

"There is a temporary outage of the Battle.net service. Please try again later."

I have the same problem. I suspect they don't have enough servers for all the players trying to play right now. They are probably blocking a couple of accounts on purpose so the others can play without lag. If it's the case, It's sad they don't admit it and try to make it look like a bug...

Still unable to log in. I can't even create a Guest Account to play the game temporarily while I wait for Blizzard to fix this since I need to make a character first, which I can't do.

After following this thread for a bit... http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/106470833
...it seems apparent that for a lot of people with this situation, it's a regional conflict problem. In other words, their account is meant for EU (Europe) while they registered their Starcraft II for NA (North America). I don't believe I have the same problem though, as my account was created for the NA beta, and the game registered in NA as well.

There are rumors that it might take up to a week to fix this "Bnet outage" and might be even longer since there are numerous other game bugs for the people who can actually log in. Hopefully they will fix this within a few days.

In related news: My roommate has been playing this game nonstop for the past 8 hours.

It's only happening to some people. They know about it. They're looking into it. That's about as far as I knew last.

I recently tried logging in to my account on my friend's game, and it doesn't work, but his account does work. This means that it's not a game problem, but an account problem. We will have to wait for Blizzard to fix their account system, or we can call Blizzard tech support to switch our game registration to a new account. I will keep waiting for a week or so to see if they will amend this problem soon. If I manage to find some sort of fix, I will update this thread.

Yeah, i'm guessing it has to do with their DB and your Bnet Account.

Having the same problem. Read something about accounts being mistakenly flagged as EU instead of NA, either way its completely shameful. Way to make me hate battle.net 2.0. Buy a game a launch and can't even play the single player campaign. Can't get through to tech support, must be a fair amount of problems.

Can't even post on the SC2 forums because I can't create a SC2 character...

Wheres a nice shiny return policy when you need it.

I am experiencing this exact same problem. At first I thought it was because the servers were flooded with new players, but after failing to log on at 10 AM the morning after release I realized that wasn't the problem. I later checked the US battle.net site and it says the servers are online, contrary to what the game tells me when I try to log in. I don't see how my account could have been messed up, as I had no problems logging in during the beta. And yes, my account is correctly set to North America.

Same as mine, worked fine during beta.

Sixen says they're aware of the problem and are working on it

So, take comfort it that. Your $60 game that you can't play, and probably can't return, doesn't work. No word on when it may start working, just that it probably will in some amount of time.

Having the same issues as you guys. I am pretty pissed, I would like to be able to play the $100 dollar game I just purchased.

Are you all still experiencing the issues or have you all eventually got it to work?

Blizzard, it would be nice to have some blue in here to let us know what is going on.

EDIT:
Just occurred to me that I had the exact same issue during the beta at one point and right after receiving the message I could try and log on with my brothers account and get on fine. Apparently battlenet hates my account.

Anyone else using a gmail plus style address for the account name. My account is emailaccount+battlenet@gmail.com, maybe that breaks battlenet?

EDIT2:
Nope, tried changing my e-mail address, still didn't work. Awesome.

Apparently this could be due to an account being assigned to the wrong region, I have no idea how that could happen, I am still going through all this to find a potential answer.

EDIT:
Just for the record, Blizzard support is really dropping the ball on this. People are having to call up and get new accounts created and then transfer their games over just to be able to play. So the support lines are acknowledging the problems, yet they seem to be largely ignoring us online. Just a simple, "It's a known issue, we are working on a fix", would be awesome.

Update for anyone interested.

Called Blizzard tech support today, after waiting about 1 hour in queue the gentlemen one the phone said my account had been created as a EU account (which is what I get for creating a Battle.net 2.0 the second Blizzard announced it) and that this was known issue. He also said a patch was forthcoming but couldn't give me an ETA.

There are apparently two solutions, wait for the issue to be corrected or create a proper US account and move the game over. He offered to do the latter for me but told me he couldn't move over all the other games I have on the account (SC1, WC3 and D2). I told him I preferred to wait for a fix so I can have all my games on one account.

It's good to know that Blizzard is working on the problem. I was becoming worried, as the e-mail I sent to support on Thursday has still not elicited a reply from Blizzard support.

However, I do not understand how my account could have been labeled as EU. I decided to test which region to which my account was set by logging in at the eu.battle.net website (instead of my usual us.battle.net). I was immediately redirected back to us.battle.net. I then attempted to log into the EU Starcraft 2 community site and while I was able to log in, any attempt to access my account from that site resulted in an error. I had no difficulty logging in or accessing my account on the US sites. With this in mind, forgive me if I find it hard to believe that my battle.net account is set to EU.
