  • 0. [SOLVED] Cannot play StarCraft II   08/01/2010 12:53:36 PM PDT
Just today, I bought the Southeast Asia edition of StarCraft 2. Since I am on vacation in Hong Kong, I figured buying that edition would be smarter due to the multi-region play. I then registered the Authentication Key for StarCraft 2 onto my Canadian Battle.net account. After I finished installing, and put in my email address onto the log-in bar, this came up:

"The game is awaiting a response from Battle.net. The service may be temporarily unavailable or your internet connection may be down. If you are not connected in a few moments, please check your internet connection and try again."

It never connects. I've tried everything the support tells you to do; forwarded ports, disabled firewall, etc.

The only clue I have about this problem is this thread:
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=26262709028&sid=3000

They say it may be due to a regional conflict. However, the pop-up I get after being unable to connect differs than the "temporary outage" pop-up given by a regional conflict.

Help would be appreciated.

But you see, I'm a bit concerned because the dialogue I get is completely different from the "temporary outage" message the thread talks about. I'm concerned it's not the same problem.

Try running SC2Switcher.exe, any luck?

Tried it, same problem.

EDIT:

Upon trying to re-install StarCraft 2, I noticed that the installer said it could not connect to the internet, and clicking on the "!" symbol would tell me to go to a link, where I could get an authentication key to continue the installation. However, this tells me that although my internet connection is configured properly, StarCraft 2 in general simply cannot connect to the internet.

EDIT 2:

After doing a test with another computer, I found that the other computer could successfully connect to Battle.net and play the campaign. This means it is not the fault of the game or is it regionally conflicting.

I also get this message:
"The game is awaiting a response from Battle.net. The service may be temporarily unavailable or your internet connection may be down. If you are not connected in a few moments, please check your internet connection and try again."

I do not get the temporary outage message but wonder if it's the regional conflict that generates both messages.

Unlike most people here that get EU accounts when they are supposed to get NA ones I suspect I might be in the reversed position, meaning I have a NA account when I'm supposed to have a EU one.

If I want to mail Blizzard and ask them to check my account and possibly change the region, where do I send the mail? Would I have to ask for a new cdkey and register a new battle.net account or just wait until they fix my current account? If it's too much of a hassle to get it fixed this way I'll just wait for the patch. Anyone already done this?

I think I've narrowed down the problem. The computer I successfully ran StarCraft 2 on was purchased and used in Hong Kong, which belongs to the SEA region. However, no matter how hard I try, I am unable to connect to Battle.net on my Canadian computer. It could very possibly be a regional problem, and I will try contacting Blizzard later today.

Well, if you bought an SEA version of the game, are you logging into the SEA server or the NA server?

I bought the SEA version, and should be connecting to the SEA servers, but I'm attempting to play it on a Canadian computer and through a Canadian Battle.net account. I've tried to play the game on another computer purchased and used in Hong Kong, and it worked fine, so I'm pretty sure its not my Battle.net account regionally conflicting. I cannot find any reason why StarCraft 2 refuses to connect to Battle.net aside from the reason this computer is Canadian, but how could Blizzard possibly detect my computer is Canadian?

TOTALLY CONFUSED.

EDIT:

As of today, I have solved this problem. It turns out Microsoft Onecare had a firewall that could not be accessed unless through the task manager. I had to go in the task manager and stop the service completely in order to play StarCraft 2.
