I preordered my copy of SC2 from Gamestop tonight. The cashier handed me a small slip of paper, separate from my receipt, with my beta key on it. It won't work when I attempt to add it to my battle.net account. The key is only 19 characters long instead of the usual amount. My roommate also preordered a copy and is having the same problem. I've put in a help request to Blizzard. My question is whether or not anyone else is having a similar issue.

I haven't heard of anything like this, but you'll have to wait for a response from Blizzard. If the same thing happened to your roommate, i'd recommend you two talk to the GameStop you got your keys from.

I have also had the same problem so you are not alone in this subject. I went to pick up my sc beta key today and my key did not work. I contacted the gamestop community and told them about my problem. I gave them the information reguarding the e-mail with the so called valid key and the sent me another one that did not work. I contacted them for a 3rd time in hopes that I would recieve a working beta key and also sent information to Blizzard reguarding the problem that I had with an invalid key that was either pirated by some hacker or misstyped which is highly unlikely. Now I am in the same boat with half the starcraft community that was given a key that does not work. If Blizzard would read some of these forums they might have to check the e-mails with the persons key and send them a replacement that is guaranteed to work or manually put it into their battle.net accnt. We're not using 19-digit keys for StarCraft II. They should be 26. Are you sure these numbers are StarCraft II keys or are they some sort of Gamestop registration system where you submit that to them and they mail you something else? I'm unfamiliar with this "piece of paper handoff" business.

About midway down on the page I read the following:

Online Customers: A code and instructions on how to join the beta will be emailed within 1 business day of when your order was placed.
Store / In-Store Pickup Customers: A beta code will be printed on your pre-order receipt.
I don't know what the difference is (if any) between a beta code and a key code. Did you receive any "instructions"?
