I recently started playing NE a little more, but I usually play orc. I've practiced vs a CPU, so my pathetic stats don't plummet even faster. Vs a comp of any level, I can easily win, but something tells me it won't hold up on battle.net.

I generally am very weak at the start, with virtually nothing but archers. When I tech up, I start getting a few melee units ( hunts or bears, depending on whether I tech to T3 ). So my army usually ends up being 24-30ish archers, and about 10 bears / hunts. I easily crush any resistance, with the bear / hunts acting as a meat shield, while my massive archer army takes out units one-by-one.

I just don't think this will hold up vs real players, as I would be very weak against any kind of rush. I usually am not ready to attack until 15 minutes into the game, which is about the time I've won when I play orc. So, you guys got any tips, or something I should do different when playing NE?

A Noob in Need,
Seyla

Most Night elfs just go bears/dryad, archer/talon, or hunts. There's very little variation from those strats.

They work, yours may or may not. In my head i just see a blade master *#*#@* your archer army one by one by himself, while your bears sit helplessly ensnared.

The game is in need of some new strats though, so dont feel like you have to do what everyone else does.

By the way, welcome to the light side. The light side being any other race besides orc.

Me being a very experienced solo player (around 3000 solo games, was level 44 in northrend a few years ago), I can tell you some tips if you want to become a better player, altough I don't know if they will work for you,

I started off with NIghtElf aswell, at first I just made 2 barracks and massed huntresses, vs every race and on every map, I was at 50% and around level 25-30 range, just by massing hunts @T1, but it was good to start off with something like this because all your focus in a tactic like this goes for your micro, basically no macro is needed, so I learned micro very fast, but at the time I didn't even use hotkeys, so I basically micro'd with my mouse only.

As time passed I thought I really need to improve my playing and I decided to do what everybody else was doing - bear/dryad, I found out that this requiered micro other than right clicking and picking out low HP units and trying to get a surround, I needed to start using hotkeys, it is absolutely ESSENTIAL if you want to play competetively in Bnet, you can't do *!%@ without them. I needed them for both Micro & Macro aswell, so I adjusted my hotkeys for everything - groups, unit build, spells and items. It takes some time to get used to using hotkeys for everything, It may take around 100 games untill you start using the hotkeys automatically without thinking, but It will be worth it, your micro and macro will increase dramatically. (use WarKeys & AutoKey)

As my experience and level increased, I understood that by simply cookie cutting and microing your ass off, you will not be able to defeat the really good players, you will start to need innovation and countering the enemy, something which I didn't think about. You will learn timing, you will successfully start to guess or assume where your enemy might be and what might he be doing at any given time, so you start to counter him with some scouting and just by guessing, that is essential in high level playing because timing is everything at high levels.

What I also learned is that it is not a must-do to cookie-cut, you CAN be innovative and successful, because of the element of surprise, you just need to practice your own strategies and if you lose, you learn from your mistakes by seeing what weaknesses you have that your enemy exposed, and adjust to them.

My current playing form is experienced but sloppy, my macro is a bit rusty because I haven't played for quite a while, but I am still able to go 10-0 northrend solo and play competitively vs level 40+ players at any given day with nightelf.

Yes I was , it was I think 1.18 and year 2006, with account noobsuseimba or siiber2 or isuckinmirrors, can't remember which one I used, but yes I was at one point level 44 and stayed at level 40 range half a year or so.
With my main account RTRTRT I was also level 38 or something at one time maybe two years ago.

PS, I can take you with any race, any day of the week.

I know those accs of yours, you even posted on them here. And none of them had more than maybe 150 games. You'd think people would have seen that 44 next to your acc name lol
Don't lie to yourself.

Actually every one of them had over 500 games, including some other like L0stHer0 (my first solo acc) and phr

And no I don't think I ever posted with them here, I've always been P(D).

Whatever you say, dude. But don't think you can convince me that your memory is better than mine. Many people tried to do that, most of them failed, others simply forgot.

PS I could have defeated the real 4K.Creolophus if I wanted, but I let him win.

No I'm serious, I won that incup game on gnollwood, in elf mirror with me massing hunts and he played REALLY REALLY bad. but it was incup and it was the real creolophus, and I threw the game away basically, he got a few lucky surrounds on my hero because I didn't pay attention, and he got the win, but really, I was very close to winning that one and could have.

I didn't expect you to believe that, but it is true, and maybe incup page still has some proof for that, it was only a few weeks before Creo won WCG. It is to this day the only time I've played an elite player, and that game didn't impress me one bit, he played sloppy and bad, looked like he wasn't trying at all, and I COULD have won that game but I threw it away, I had it in the bag but I took it out of the bag and threw it down the toilet because of a few very sloppy stupid mistakes I made.

Also I wonder why are you so scared of me, or why you were so scared to play against me when I challenged you in this forum about a year or so ago? You dodged for your life.

Q u o t e:

1. Don't talk about proof, just PROVE it.

2. Anybody with half a clue about the wc3 scene knows that story is bull*!%@. Stop lying to yourself. And the internet.

Its true, I was shocked myself at how bad Creo actually played, and that I had a real shot at winning that game but I threw it away, and it was the real Creo because it was incup, and he was like at the top3 in incup rankings at the time...

PS, Incup page is down ATM.

It was on gnollwood, he was spawning at 12 o'clock and me at 7 o'clock, I made POTM 2rax hunts, he had Dh/panda/archers, and I was doing very well and was about to win that game be he somehow got a surround on my POTM and killed it (I always sell TP when I mass hunts) the game was decided only by a lucky hero surround, I would have won it at that position 9 times out of 10.

Q u o t e:

You know that he was inactive before WCG, right? Oh, you don't know?
But good job almost beating xxCreolorphaurs1992 or something.

Stop. Lying. To. Yourself.

I think he was inactive before WCG yes, it might have been a few months before it aswell, but I remember not more than that, it was definitely the same season. And it was the real creo because it was incup and he was amongst the top of the rankings.

Didn't Shins- claim he beat APM70 aswell?

Q u o t e:
I have yet to meet a semi-pro/pro and beat them.

=(

One day, though... One day...

I've played some other pro's like Krestinov and MinHyuk aswell, and out of Creo/Krest/Minhyuk, Krestinov was far and away the most impressive he absolutely dominated the game I had no chance in the world against him, even tho I played a good game.
