Due to many threads that i've seen recently here
//like http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=16904207716
//or http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=17779529267
// http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=23214132832
// http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=21559886192 and others
where people are blaming Colors,Graphicbugs and Freezes with the Operation System Windows 7 ,i've made a working fix (for everyone i hope,tested on 13 people= worked on everyone]. Other threads came up with complicated ideas like "/kill process" and that stuff but that doesn't work always and it's not necessary. Here is what you need to do.
You need to know which bitsystem you have.[32bit or 64bit].
You can find out by:
Start -> Run -> "Cmd /k Systeminfo" [Start=>Run is also the Hotkey Win+R).
You'll see there something like:
Systemtype: X86-based PC (this would mean that you've a 32 bit CPU/OS)
Systemtype: X64-based PC (would mean that you've a 32 bit CPU/OS).
After this you've to download this regfile:
http://ul.to/nczhx6
Alternate Download (Mirror): http://3.ly/SCWIN7
==
You'll see 2 regfiles: sc116-x86.reg. and sc116-x64.reg.
If you have a 32 bit windows then activate sc116-x86.reg.
If you have a 64 bit windows then activate sc116-x64.reg.
[If you've any suspiciousness (due to virus/malware) you can just open this file with an editor to assure yourself that there are only 4 lines of registration parameters and not a h4xx or w/e]
That's it. Run Starcraft to make sure that it's fixed and give feedback please. compared to other "fixes" it doesn't matter here whether you'll make this after or before the update/patch.

I trust to have served you sufficiently.

Hey Warlord, thanks for this fix. It actually works perfectly. I haven't been able to play Starcraft on Windows 7 for quite a while and I was beginning to get annoyed.

I had even contacted a Blizzard employee via email and they could not help out.

Only problem I'm having is the game errors out when the game finishes. Instead of me being able to see the scores and such, it just displays a black screen. But what you can't see is a dialog box. I didn't know it was there until I checked my system logs. I don't remember what the error actually had said (I can't find it in the system logs at the moment.) To close the game, I'd have to just simply press enter and reopen it.

Another thing I'm encountering, is something I'm not sure is from this fix. The game locks up completely. When it does this, I am unable to even get into the Task Manager. It happened earlier when I was playing SC with a friend while on skype with him. When it froze, I was still able to talk to him via microphone, but nothing else. I had to hard reboot my computer to fix it.

Any ideas on what could be causing those two problems?

Also, I'm just curious as to what the registry files even did to the registry. Could you let us know? Thanks!

@Bosko: i know this error. I had the same. But in my case it was WinAmp. My game crashed always when WinAmp was playing in the background and sometimes a new song popped up. If the songname was too long the pop-up that shows the song will be pretty long too. It'll reach the 640 pixels and get "into" the game. That caused the freeze. I could imagine that your problem is similar.

There is a much easier way to fix the weird colours whilst playing in Windows 7. I got this fix a while back after getting odd colours whilst trying to play AoE 1 & 2 and it also works in SC1 so I will share with you guys.

1) Run Starcraft
2) Alt-Tab or Minimise
3) Open Task Manager
4) Go to Processes tab
5) Locate explorer.exe
6) Select End Process (this will temporarily remove your start menu and desktop items)
7) Go to Applications tab and double click on Starcraft to maximise

after quitting the game, follow these instructions to get desktop back:

8) Open Task Manager
9) Select File -> New Task (Run)
10) type in explorer.exe and hit Ok

Takes less than 10 seconds to do each time you play, and all your Windows 7 colour problems will be fixed.

Enjoy!

It kinda works for the single-player campaign, but I'm still having a couple problems:
    Fog of War draws strange edges, flashes white along the edges when I scroll while a unit is uncovering the fog.

    Fix does not work at all for missions in the single player campaign using the indoor tileset. Have not been on the jungle, char, or space tilesets yet.

    Fix does not seem to work in multiplayer.

    Fix does not work in out-of-game menus, nor in cinematics or in-game scripted events.

The registry fix works perfectly for me.

I have made a small research through Windows registry. It appears that file provided by Warlord_7 adds Starcraft v1.16 to compatibility list in Windows 7. What's more interesting - there are already some entries to some older games in compatibility list, provided by Microsoft. It appears Microsoft was perfectly aware of this problem with some older games. There are even entries for Starcraft v1.15, 1.00 and Starcraft Demo (there is also an entry for Diablo). That explains why games works just fine when you do not install any patches. (v1.15 is the version downloadable from battle.net). Too bad neither Microsoft, nor Blizzard provided solution for Starcraft v1.16.

What you do by adding Warlord_7's file to registry, is applying Microsoft's solution to this issue, for latest version of Starcraft.

This is what I do and it works 100% every time.

Open notepad:
paste the following :
taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Starcraft\Starcraft.exe

start c:\windows\explorer.exe

save as sc.bat , make sure you don't save as .txt but as save as all files

Run this .bat and it will launch starcraft, when you exit starcraft your explorer will run automatically.

You may need to change the locations to wherever you installed the game.

Hope this helps
