Can we expect a presence of the church via NPCs and/or a story arch?

Die hard paladin fan here, and with the most prominent story element in the Diablo universe being heaven and hell, I wouldn't feel very immersed if the church and their warriors weren't a strong element. Representing the good of humanity, I'd sortof expect to see this type of character somewhere of importance.

Unless the paladins and their church were of the first casualties in D3. I'd have to cry if that were the case..

In the same vein of holy men, would the monk be able to not only wield armor and weapons, but be able to use them to any effect? Priest with a strong arm is priest with a strong arm right?

Monks are kind of related to church, no?

Q u o t e:

There are many religions we have been presented with in the Diablo franchise, it is unlikely the traditional sense the paladin stands for will take much of a center roll..

I don't know of any other religions in Diablo that directly correspond with the good evil heaven and hell concept. Are there more?

Q u o t e:

As for the second part.. all the videos about the monk suggest he is the most skilled in weaponry of all the classes.. Where the Barbarian uses brute force.. the Wizard and Witchdoctor use different magics.. the monk uses extreme finesse to kill

That's good to know! Maybe hope for the class I love isn't lost.

As for monks being church related, yeah they are but really didn't deal with any civil serviced like the paladin, if that makes sense.

I didn't ever really think Diablo was a game about Heaven fighting against Hell; it's more like hell taking foothold in the world and all the people of the earth uniting against the evil in an effort to force it back into the pit and blah blah blah. If it were strictly a heaven versus hell type game wouldn't we all play as angels?

As far as the other religions in Diablo we have: Paganism for the druid, Wiccan for the sorcoress, Necromancy for the necromancer and likely more social creed in the assassin, barbarian and amazon than religion. Same pretty much goes for Classic: Wiccan for Sorcorer and more social than religious values for the warrior and rogue.

I hope all the paladins get wiped out at the very start of D3. Along with the necromancers.

All of them.

The best thing about waking up is the tears. I drink them instead of coffee now.

The Knights of Westmarch and cult of Rathma still exist, so the chances of coming across a paladin and/or necromancer through your travels are pretty good.

Sounds very promising, it'd be cool not to only have them as enemies (e.g. when corrupted, etc) but also as a temporary merc for a quest, etc :)

I can personally confirm that Necromancer NPCs are in the game. At the Blizzcon 09 demo, there was a random quest where you assisted a necromancer in exorcising some ruins. I found it funny that instead of a pasty white guy like in D2, he was an old man with a long white beard, a paunch, and no shirt.

That's good to know. Since the D3 classes have been release, I have assumed that we won't be able to play paladin or necromancer (as 5th class), but that we would absolutely see them in the world as NPCs.

I'm still holding out hope for a return of some older classes (Necromancer) to be playable in an expansion.

The Knights of Westmarch

PALADIN. Not Knight. Sheesh. >_>

But actually, I'd be more likely to want to chill with these Knights than those Paladins. Who probably died out when we destroyed their council.

Boldly going nowhere.

The paladin character in D2 is one that disbanded from the church of Zakarum, I kind of assumed they woulda made another sect to continue the old ways.

  • 18. What have we to fear?   02/10/2010 11:16:02 PM PST
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, courageous, talented, zealous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of Divinity.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people will not feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest
the glory of righteousness that is within us.
It's not in just some of us;
It's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

If evil fears what we are, who are we to fear evil?
