  • 0. Trouble connecting to b-net   12/07/2009 05:19:43 PM PST
Hello, i recently bought a new computer, i have installed wc3 and expansion correctly but when i try to log on to battlenet i cant come in.

Error message:
"You may be trying to connect to an invalid battle.net server. If you are using a modem, you may need to manually connect to internet before connection to Battle.net"

I am not using a modem and not a router, it guess it is a DNS.
I also tryed running a tracert that i found on this forum on another support thread, when i try to do that it just says " access denied "

I am playing on northrend and i did type that when i tryed the tracert.

The game worked perfectly fine on my old comp, and i had the same connection on that one, though i have win 7 instead of xp now, and i dont know if that makes any difference.
I also tryed turning of antivirus and windows firewall. Nothing have worked this far.

Would appricuate if you could help me figure this out.

best regards

You might wanna know that i can get in on all ather servers but northrend, US east and west works, and asia as well.

I am using a valid cd-key, no1 else use it, no third party programs and i have never been doing any kind of spam.
Only thing i can think of right now (though i doubt it could have anything to do with this) is that i had trouble installing because my cd was not working, so i tryed installing without success a couple of times before i borrowed a new cd from a friend, i still used my cd-key though.

You may simply just be denied access to run tracerts. No worries. Download the Diagnostic Tool created by Win32, below:

Extract the files and then execute the program inside.

First, type in "resolve *realm.battle.net" without the quotation marks. If you get many ip's, then that works.

The second test is to type this:
"connect *realm.battle.net" without the quotation marks.

Now, post the contents of Log.txt in a reply to this thread so it can be reviewed.

*: Change this with your realm. For example, useast.battle.net.

I dowloaded the program as u wrote, extracted it in to my wc3 folder, ran the program, typed what u told me to and this is what came back:

+++ Begin hostname resolution on northrend.battle.net
Querying information about the host... Error! 11001

+++ Begin connection test with all servers on northrend.battle.net

+++ Begin hostname resolution on northrend.battle.net
Querying information about the host... Error! 11001

You are temporarily restricted. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you the exact reason as to why you have been restricted, or the amount of time you'll be restricted. The only thing we can show is the list of reasons for restrictions and give you a timeframe. Please note that restrictions cannot be removed or shortened, the only solution is to wait it out. You can view the thread below for more information about restrictions:

Now, there are different types of restrictions. First, there's the Realm Down message which only appears on Diablo2. This type of restriction lasts between 2 minutes and 12 hours. Next, there's the Temporary Restriction and the Extended Restriction. Temporary restrictions last anywhere from 2 minutes to 72 hours and Extended Restrictions last between 3 days and 2 weeks. If you would like to find out what type of restriction it is, send an e-mail to support@blizzard.com. Please note, it will take an employee 2-3 business days to respond to you.

Kitkong,

The IP address last used by this account to connect to Europe (Northrend) is currently restricted for about 1 week still. Restrictions of this length are typically imposed when an invalid cd-key is used to connect. Unfortunately, there's no way to get the exact cause, nor can it be removed before it's run its course.

I even have the asks with the cd-keys infront of me (not saved in any text document so there is no chance there is more ppl using them :S

That's only a common cause of extended restrictions, it may not be exactly what caused it for you.
