The Blizzard downloader for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne both show the error "There was a problem authenticating your download"
Don't know what's wrong except the fact that I'm running Windows 7. I already tried to set compatibility to Windows XP and 2000. Also set it as run as admin.
However, the World of Warcraft download works completely fine.

This is nearly always a permissions-related problem meaning it's trying to install into a folder you don't have the proper rights in. What folder is the game trying to use?
We recommend you create a folder, and install it there rather than let it go under Program Files or the Desktop.
I have no clue, I can't even save it to any folder. Once I double click the installer it gives me the error message.
The first time I downloaded the installer it told me to select a folder, which I then made a new one and tried installing it there. However, I received the error message right after.
Sixen, I've tried it.

The game folder location the downloader is going to use is in the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Downloader
If you know how to use the registry editor, deleting that key will force the downloader to ask for another location so you can change it to another of your choice.
If you need some basic help editing the registry let me know. Using it can cause more harm than good if you make a mistake so please don't try if you're not familiar with it.
So I received the same message in the same context. I downloaded the PC Client from the "manage game" section of my battle.net account. I then ran the ROC installer. The message says that there was a problem authenticating my download.
I have tried running the installer from several locations (the downloads folder, the desktop, and a new folder I created when I downloaded the installer another time.)
The Windows 7 account I am using is an administrator. I tried running the installer as an administrator (right click function.)
I removed the registry key so I could choose a different destination drive for the installation and have tried installing to: the desktop, the c drive, a new folder in the c drive, program files, a new folder in program files, the download folder, and my user folder in windows.
A have tried every combination of the above. I have edited the permissions in several folders and attempted each of those as well.
I'm tempted to format my hard drive and go back to XP (my new computer sadly came with W7)
Any other options I might try?

I've tried that. I just tried it twice more. I've downloaded the downloader more than a dozen times and tried several different locations to download it to and run it from.

It's definitely the latest version. I don't really understand why it would make a difference which browser I used to download it, considering the downloader runs independent of the browser.

Please have this method improved. Even if it's a simple as asking for the folder each and every time (using the registry key as a suggested location). It happens with the Mac version too
