Diablo II and Star craft is amazing games! and none of them have good graphics, they are both all about gameplay, in different ways that is just awesome! Now everyone thinks a game is awesome because the graphics are good, and dont care that much about gameplay, like wow and war craft...the best with war craft is dota..witch blizzard dident create. Hopefully d3 and sc2 will get more focus on gameplay! gameplay over graphics!!! imba graphics = bugs!

That said, I agree with your post on some level.

Graphics, are a natural progression of Computer development. D3 will still be able to run on a bucket of bolts, Blizzard is notorious for making the games run-able on as many machines as possible.

You've got nothing to worry about, hell, they're using the same engine I run Half life 2 on (Theirs is modified) and I could run HL 2 on my old PC using Windows XP and 1gig ram.

I don't think you have to worry to much...

I find Diablo III to have an awesome artistic style. It looks like Diablo, and it looks like a normal human world, but without being photo realistic. It's pretty unique.
Furthermore, the animations are second to none. There are no clunky movements, no silly body movements or anything - it looks sweet.

That's pretty much what makes it for me when talking about graphics. That the game looks awesome visually, and that the different animations in the game feel fitting.

I can't see what else you would look for when talking about graphics, at least not in any way that relates to your gameplay experience.

Same applies for SC II, looks amazing as well and I totally fail to see what would be "good graphics" if SC II is "bad graphics".

How cute this guy thinks WoW has good graphics. Yes it is better than D2 which is normal since it is newer and not isometric, but compared to other games it is quite weak.

People have been complaining that gamers only care about graphics since the dawn of video games. Your argument is nothing new, nor do I think it has much weight. We want to play games that are fun, period. Fun games and good graphics are not mutually exclusive and good graphics do not = bugs.

On top of that, when Diablo 2 and Starcraft came out they were pretty decent graphics wise. Not the best, but certainly not considered bad.


Fact is, a successful game will have good game play and a graphic design to best illustrate and capture the game's features. If Starcraft and Diablo were both reduced to a bunch of stick figure, the gameplay wouldn't matter and it would have failed.

If you really are in denial about the worthlessness of graphics ask yourself when was the last time (if ever) you played a text adventure game? Then check to see how their sales are doing (if anyone is even making any beyond web-based)

Graphics will continue to improve and no matter how much of this fake nostalgia crap you pour out it wont change a thing.

For the longest time I have resisted buying games just because they look good. Often people will see awesome graphics and think that the game will be awesome too, only to find out after purchase that this isn't necessarily the case. I always read reviews for how players (not reviewers) think the game plays, and how much fun it is because that is a much better indication of game quality. If a game has a demo, I will check it out before buying if I have any doubts. Demos have saved me from more than a couple disasters.

I think this is lost on a lot of game companies (namely Crytek). Some recent games will indeed show you that style trumps realism every single time. I mean, except for like, sports games or whatever.

If I wanted to see a really realistic tree, I'd look in my backyard. If I want to see a tree that totally looks like it would come from a world lorded over by angels and demons in constant war, gnarled and worn down, almost corrupted, I'll look in Diablo 3 (Leoric Highlands: I am not even looking at a screenshot but I remember exactly what it looks like--a sure sign of quality). I'll look in Diablo 3 because that fits and it isn't in my backyard. I hope. I haven't checked in the last five minutes, but I'm keeping my eye on the situation.

Well obviously there has to be a bailout point, but before that, it's unreasonable to argue that because graphics are too advanced or great that gameplay is suffering automatically. Enough on that kinda meme.

But as for bailouts, when I was first introduced to D2 by a friend (same one who got me hooked on SC1), I had a 166 MHz or somethinganother computer and no video card. D2 ran like crap. Blizzard can't cater to Windows 3.1, or MSDOS or my old can't run D2 computer with a 1.86 GB harddrive. It just doesn't need to be considered.

Hehe, gameplay is king.

With the Big Bad Blizz its always about $$$ and don't forget it.. If they can make a game that works on a Ti calculator run just as well as my QX9770 with 3x280 in sli they will do it cus they can.. They want to get as many people to play as possible.

WoW is prime example of this although your going to hear Screams come that new xpac when they update the engin again for Cat.

Hey im all for doing stuff on the cheap but there has to be a point even to Blizz to say ok well we want to cater to a few that happen to have 2 year old video card too and your 6800gt well has got to go. Hell nvidia hasnt even made a new driver for it for 2 years(not including modders).

I guess what im getting at is Blizz and what even another company copying blizz at the moment is doing is trying to balance grapics and gameplay.
