These bots that host games to promote maps or clans are really annoying. They take up slot space. Normal human games get very few people joining. Can't they be filtered out or banned? Because I assume warcraft 3 already lost players because of them and I suspect more will leave because of them. No one wants to join these bot hosts and so these games never start. They take up slot space for no reason.
Q u o t e: I will admit this, I was running a hostbot for quite some time, there are reasons people run them, mostly, because people don't know how to port forward properly, or, there router is a no name brand, and won't allow port forwarding/triggering.
No, people use them to promote their map or clan, regardless of the map's popularity or the clan's appeal to the masses.
Q u o t e:
There are issues such as that, where someone in a clan, can start a bot, and publically host that clans game. The rare games hosted by bots, such as ITT, Vamp, Footmen, ID, and so on, are the ones, that get filled and start in a few minutes 90% of the time.
I don't think the userbase has problems with clan use of bots for ease of playing games, it's just that the vast majority of bots are sitting there taking up space with NO PEOPLE IN THE GAME. These bots are coming from people who want to promote maps or clans and they do so at the expense of everyone else.
Q u o t e: Now, if you dislike this, host a private game, or join a clan that plays your favorite map, and get clan members all playing at a time in a inhouse game.
Warcraft's beauty is that it allows a casual player or a solo player to find games to play with people they don't know. You can just start the game and play. Not everyone wants to be in a clan or schedule times to play.
Q u o t e: Or, set filters, ones to ignore custom maps, or different types. I will agree though, Clan Kiwi, is #%@%ing annoying with advertising games and kicking everyone from them games and not letting them start....
The filter system makes it impossible to filter out specific maps.
Q u o t e: (I no longer run a hostbot, mostly due to the stupid 1.24 patch that screwed ITT maps up....)
Glad to hear this.
8/13 games or 60 percent of the games on the list pictured are Bot operated. The clan Kiwi advertisements have been up for weeks and aren't even for the purpose of playing any game. P
Please Blizzard, do something to stop these bots or curb their use. Battle.net is not intended to be an advertising service and these bots are making it harder and harder to just casually play the game online. This game's great strength is its dynamic and creative community of mapmakers that continually create new content. The hosting bots are suffocating this community.
True, bots have taken WC3 over. In a year ago everyone hosted there own games. Now its almost impossible to host some specific games. For excample my specific game Battle Tanks in hosted only by bots. I haven't seen a game hosted by a player for a month. Also if there is 3 bots hosting the same game in a time where is not very much people you cannot play at all.
Also about clans, yes, they could help a bit but note that even clan members are offline and/or in games already so you can't get a game filled with clan members only every time. Also if you would like to join clan there is much clans for famous games but you might not know clan names. Also if you want to play a game what is less popular there still might be clans, but who knows how active or good they are.
Also creating a clan yourself it will need much work (even too much) too keep the clan active, to get it big and to have only professional and friendly members.
I am in a clan and if I could say I enjoy playing with members, but as a leader there is much work with inviteing (whispering to get someone to a channel and to clan, checking realm because sometimes players can be different realms with bot games, cheking there skill) or any other things what requaiers time makes me busy so you really need to enjoy dealing with clan before you can enjoy playing with clan. I sometimes feel that clan Chieftain dosen't even gain the prize with playing professional players because before he/she can reach it he/she needs to make so much work - its more like the leader help only members not itself...thats the way the clan is build up for. And I am sure that in this case you want to just have great games, not to make so much work.
I actually like bots because you can almost always find a game and they will also never leave the game. As you know if a host leaves game everyone will be kicked out. Also if a game fills fast I see no problem with bots. But yes, the spamming and waiting for the players to get game filled up is annoying...
Also what I do not like is that some admins go crazy and ban everyone from the bot. Also sometimes players just join game and then leave game so the bot can't never start.
Would be great if there where a bit lesser amount of bots for people who could host games like in old days.
So I could say:
-Bots help when much people are in WarCraft lll.
-Bots annoy when theres less people in WarCraf lll.
