Actually, Friskydingo is right. You mentioned you played WoW, so surely you must have seen this as well? You could have a 30 man raid killing a boss. There would be arcs of fireballs and shadowbolts, yes, but that was about it. Imagine if every hunter was spamming an attack like Lightning Fury, the Mages were casting Frozen Orb and Meteor instead of frost bolt, the Warlocks casting Poison Nova instead of Shadowbolt, hunters with 5 wolf pets each instead of 1, and so on.

Although, I am talking more about clutter on the screen rather than flashiness, I suppose.

Where D3 is seeing the influence is not through spells, but more through out of proportion armor, glowy spell effects on weapons, armors, and characters, and so on.

Yes the weapon enchants I can see how you say that from WoW but the spells.. thats not from WoW at all.. thats from previous Diablo games.. in a game with 8 people spamming spells your screen would get cluttered.. but the difference is from Diablo2 and Diablo3 videos you see now is youve trained yourself to pick out what is what from experiance playing the game.. this will happen eventually once you start playing Diablo3 aswell..

Yes and no. I would still argue that, at this stage of development, the D3 spells are more flashy and cluttering than D2's. I am not saying whether it is bad or not, whether it works or not, just that they are more flashy.

I very rarely played D2 with a full 8 players anyhow (unless the occaisonal baal run, which was indeed messy) and I doubt D3 will be any different. I think solo/single player or playing with maybe one or two friends, the clutter won't be too overwhelming.

I would just like to say that I think the guys at Blizzard are doing a great job on this game and I (and my friends that I will be playing with) love the way it is shaping up to look.

I look forward to experiencing the new ideas, characters, graphics, sounds and game experience.

I also think that some of my fellow forum posters need to lose they sense of entitlement they seem to have acquired somewhere along the line. Not wanting to single you out in particular OP, but your statements are a case in point of the kind of threads that infest this board.

Just because you don't like the game developer's ideas doesn't make them bad OR that they should be instantly cast aside for your gratification.

Keep up the good work that your doing Bliz. Can't wait to see how it turns out. And excuse me if I don't feel the need to look over your shoulder , wring my hands or throw a fit every time you do something I might not have done exactly the same way myself.

Try looking at WoW with Diablo tint and you'll find similarities everywhere too.

I do, I don't mind some wow aspects coming into diablo 3 since it would be for the better, but some of the changes I don't care for at all, and here I am comparing with Diablo 1 especially, but also Diablo 2.

Quit your @@*##ing.

Diablo isn't exactly a horror game, so don't be surprised if you're not !**@ting your pants while obliterating zombies. Nevertheless, Jay Wilson has said on numerous occasions that the areas we've seen are still early game, and things get worse and worse as the game goes on. I played the demo at Blizzcon 09, and while I was never really nervous like I might have been in D2, that was because I was too anxious about the time limit and was too busy hurrying to stop and smell the atmosphere. And yet... I reached the very last area in the demo, Alcarnus. I really felt the atmosphere. The sand and dust gave a feeling of claustrophobia. Combined with the ridiculous amount of cultists appearing and the various people in cages or tied to racks, I got the feeling of "hell hole" very well.

The "blocky graphics" you're talking about are for two reasons: 1. So people can run the game. and 2. Because you'll be zoomed out too far to really notice. You can't expect character models to be as detailed as they would be in, say, gears of war. There are just too many characters on the screen at once. You said yourself you only noticed during the monk trailer, which was zoomed way in. I tried watching it again, and all I could think was "How the hell is this like WoW?" The characters are properly proportioned and way more detailed. The only thing I thought was like WoW was the monster with his flat purple skin.

I don't know if someone already addressed this, but when did Jay Wilson ever work on WoW?

Here is his list of games credited, no WoW:

Well I think it's kind of easy to look at changes and advancements in the RPG genre as a whole and narrow them down to any number of sources to fit each use.

To make a car analogy (my favorite!) it would be like having issues with the newest version of the mustang because its body styling takes into account things like passenger safety and aerodynamics, and being upset by this because these are features also found in the ford focus. A clearly inferior car in the eyes of the mustang enthusiast.
These types of ideas could never have been thought of or would ever be included in the mustang, of course, had not both cars been manufactured by ford.

It's just all a bit silly. What I do think is interesting is the differentiation between the hardcore Diablo II players (most of y'all) and the majority of the rest of the game buying public. From our showing at BlizzCon and PAX a lot of the articles and off-site (non fansite) discussions are saying that Diablo III may not be doing enough to change itself from Diablo II.
If those people read some of the posts here you'd think we were putting a Diablo sticker on a WoW box and calling it a day. So it's just an interesting difference between the audiences and how level of dedication changes perceptions and expectation.

And I don't mean to lump everyone together, I'd say aside from the trolls the majority of posters here are actually level headed and logical. At least able to take multiple things into consideration. Reasonable thought process and understanding that the game is a work in progress, and not someone that sees a character with a slight hunch and makes a leap of logic that we must be using model/animation assets from a different game.

That's still my favorite. Cause of it bein' so stupid 'n all.

But anyway I guess what I'm getting at is... I'd really like to read something new and original. These posts are getting tired.
