  • 0. Making a map...   08/12/2009 12:32:27 PM PDT
A UMS one. And I need technical aid.
Making trigger... simple.
Doodads? Child's play.
Units? ehhh... por favor?
I need to set something so that when a certain unit kills a certain unit, said certain unit becomes a stronger form of certain unit. Sort of like how in halo, the floodlings own rines and take their bodies? Yeah. I need to know how to set the trigger and how to make the unit be replicated on the spot, and the replicated certain unit to be more powerful than the average one without aid of Heroes.
Thanx in advance.

these trigges are verry hard and the UI is bugged... i was able to make only simple UMS maps where 2 cpu armies fight each other + 6 humans observers and i added random music, verry fun. When i create a game "100 tanks vs 100 zealots" the game is full instantly
About what u say my enlish suck and dont got it exactly, but how i said is hard and the expert map makers should have the last word.
But i gues there are not anymore active UMS sc sites to ask help, i knew one http://www.stormcoast-fortress.net/ but i see for moment (or for ever?) the forum there is down. But there i think u still can download a special map editor better than the original. Btw u made before maps or is your 1st time?...

First, with some tuteledge from an expert mapmaker friend of mine. But hes outta town. TheHandofFate, made like 18-20 maps, all great. Most are 1 player though.
I got the SCXE, or StarCraftX-traEditor. I don't trust any others, particularly the ones to edit tile shapes.
And I know what you mean. Im trieng to learn french, and its all greek to me...

Hmmm....there are a few questions that must be answered before I can tell you if it can somehow be done or not....
- Is the unit that does the killing a melee or ranged unit?
- Does the player control any more units, of the same type or different?
- Does the killing unit has to kill a specific type of unit, or any unit?
For now, I'll answer you with this: to make a replica of that unit but more powerful....as far as I remember (it has been years since I last worked on complicated triggers), it cannot be done....not without creating a new executable with quite a good deal of changes, at least. What you can do is have each kill give you minerals, and for each kill you can use those minerals to upgrade your unit's weapons and armor (sorry, hp won't increase), making each last only a fraction of a second (so that it seems instantaneous). Anyway, please answer the questions I asked, because I'm thinking of a workaround, but I need to know more details of what you are trying to do.

There were a lot! They made some excellent maps. I was part of one, Staredit.net. It was such a great site, but then it died. Maplantis.org I had moved over to, and it was also very good. But it also died. Staredit.net has been reborn, but it's only a shell of its former self. There are people there, a bunch, but... it's just not the same. :(

Ok, well im a little into making it sucessfully now, but still having trouble making the particular unit that did the killing replicated.

Heres what i mean: Say when the designated unit type (always a ling) kills a marine. The Ling is removed, and a marine is added for say, yellow. A location moves to (*A*) zergling, as in anywhere, and creates a marine in teh ling's place, and yellow's infantry statistics are at 10 for attack and def. This makes the juggernaut of a rine in place of a ling, but never in the same place. How can I do that?

I'm still not sure I understand , but I'll give it a shot:

you want to make it so when a zergling kills a marine, he temporarily gets a super version of said marine in place of the zergling, and you want to make it so that this can only happen once per area?

well, I don't think you're going to get all of what you want but you if you can compromise:

you'll have to give yellow a certain amount of default upgrades for infantry, and just make the orginal marine not have any default. this simulates a 'super marine'.

As for making it only happen if a zergling kills the marine, that one will be a whole lot more tricky. I'd just work around this if you can. If need be you can make it so that only when a zergling is near or has been near the marine that it will happen.

I'm assuming you already know how to make it temporary and what not.

But all this said, part of the fun and flusteration of starcraft map making is that you are going to have to compromise.

Well....it sounds like you need to keep centering a locationd around each of the enemy units, and instead of using the conditions "player kills" or "player suffers death of unit" you use "player human brings exactly 1 zergling to location 'marine' " and "player computer brings exactly 0 marines to location 'marine' " and in the actions "remove all zerglings for player human at location 'marine' " and "create 1 marine for player human at location 'marine' ".

Unfortunately, right now I am unable to go into a more detailed solution, as I cannot access the map editor to check and test a few things in order to come up with a more detailed solution, however I hope this helps you out a bit.
