Ahoy.

I've a few questions about the new drop system in Diablo 3 - mostly to check if i understood right.

In d3 each player will get individual drops at boss kills, right ? But what's the case with regular drops like zombies, skeletons or chests? Does a chance of drop roll individually for each player is some Wizard kills a zombie? Does a Witch Doctor get a chance of drop too in that case - even if he had nothing to do with the killing?

And chests - do they give drops to all players regardless of who opened it ?

And one more question, that i think its very important - if someone kills a monster and gets a drop - Are we all going to get our individual drop from that monster OR we will all have a Chance of drop OR only he (who kills) gets that drop?

My understanding of this is. Everybody gets drops off everything ( or at least a chance of a drop ). Regardless if you, or your buddy killed the mob/opened the chest/killed the boss. The result will be many more things will drop in total.

You can expect that after boss fights it will be common curtesy to drop whatever a player doesn't need. My understanding is if a person drops an item it can be seen by everyone.

This i would like. (:

I just hope there aren't going to give chest drops only to the one who opens it. I can imagine the harsh competition that way and it wouldn't be good..

Maybe if you're 3 players, and when you come to a chest it's actually 3 chests instead, one for each player?

j/k lol

Seriously though, maybe the ones who did most damage on a boss gets just slightly better drop? And when I say slightly I mean slightly, we don't want to turn it into a competition. :P I just think it would be weird if those afk:ing in the middle of the boss battle gets Unique drop while the others get Normal drop lol.

Well perhaps there will be some kind of failsafe that allows for people who really don't contribute to get nothing from boss fights. I would imagine it could be simple enough to solve, but that's entirely up to them. As far as one person doing slightly more and getting a better drop, I disagree with that.

The slanted eyes, so unearthly a gray color that they seized the attention of all who looked into them. Yet almost immediately those same eyes repelled, for in them Kentril sensed his own mortality.

One way they could implement a fairly good system would be that drops are only generated for people within range of the monster (2 screens or something) and don't have the afk tag (1 minute without moving the mouse or touching the keyboard)

Or they could just give the game host the ability to kick people, solves moochers.

Remember, there are only going to be like 4-5 people in each game (as of last I heard on the subject), meaning people sitting on the side not helping are going to hurt much more.

There is no Good without Evil,
nor Order without Chaos.

Yeah, drops for everything, bosses, normal enemies, chests, etc. all drop items per player. If you see an item drop, it's for you. If you pick up an item and don't want it, when you drop it then everyone else can see it.

There are some questions the drop system raises of course about griefing or contribution, but those are really issues that are best and maybe even easier addressed when a more complete view of a final game comes into focus.

Can everyone see when orbs drop or are they player-specific too?

I do like the new drop system. This question had come up before at diii.net is all.

Have you considered possibly setting up a hotkey+click to instantly redrop items for everyone to see? That might remove the hassle of having to ask everyone if they need it, or picking up and then dropping everything of moderate worth - things that might be useful to others but aren't quite worth stopping the flow of action to discuss or mess with at all. You could just alt+click it or something and it'd fly back up into the air and drop where everyone can see it.

That is a very interesting idea.

Health globes drop the same for everyone. I'm guessing mainly because snagging one heals your entire party. It would be kind of confusing if they weren't.

Yeah, the good old "pass on roll" type situation. Again, things probably to consider at more of a tightening/refinement stage.

I remember posting about this exact thing a few weeks ago and got so much flack......

I would love to have either a mouse over or a hotkey command to speed up this distribution of loot when playing with friends. This is especially important when the game first comes out, for when you are checking almost every item to see the cool modifiers and trying to acquire any marginal upgrade.

Here's my advice: Take a 2-handed hammer and blindly destroy everything you can see in your path. All you have to remember is "smash smash smash".
Trust me, you will forget about any addiction you might have.
It is highly recommended to do it virtually.

Now, about the topic, I hope people won't just enter a game, wait for others players to clean, then take everything on the ground without even fighting like it was possible for exp in diablo 2 in the past.

Level 0 unknown class.

An obvious fix would be to limit the range where people can be counted in for loot, similar to how experience is handed out in D2.

I assume that cross-drops (Bob sees drops from Joe's kills, etc..) only occur when in a party. So if someone is griefing by leeching drops without doing any work, the players can simply drop and reform a party without the griefer.

Right?
