Alright I just got done beating Hellfire yesterday and I noticed something. D1 was way more demonic then D2. Obviously. What really made me notice was the upside-down burning crosses. That was pretty awesome. I guess my question is the title. Will there be upside-down burning crosses in diablo 3? Will the monsters stick more to the demonic side more then the corrupted animal side of diablo 2? Discuss. No flaming please :).

Edit: also in D1 there were a lot more things like bodies stabbed through posts and naked bodies ripped in half chained to the wall. Will there be stuff like that in D3?

I know what you mean, in diablo 2 there werent really alot of tortured people wich you can see there dead body in a torture machine. That sort of things always gives me a dark feeling. It makes me almost scared to continu into the level.

Dead people hanging upside down and all that sort of things really gives diablo 3 that dark, demonic feeling. so i hope there are going to add alot of it in diablo 3

I recomend getting a copy of diablo 1 or Hellfire and trying it. Helfire is an expansion so you'll need diablo 1 first. It is quite demonic. Like I said, upside-down burning crosses, tortured bodies, and pentagrams everywhere is something I seen in D1, Not in D2, and something I would love to see return in D3

Now I have never played D1 either but I will admit D2 does seem a little sissyish. There is gore no doubt but not enough when you think about the Lord Of Terror himself was ravaging around the lands.

They're there, the demons just though it would make more sense to bring the people to the machines and not the machines to the people, there's a LOT of tortured people, bodies riped in half, heads choped off in the monastery, more specifically the jail. Also catacombs 4 also has a fair amount of gore, boiling blood pools, a demonic water cooler filled with blood, that huge pit of bones and gore, dead rogues all over the act on pikes, a throne made of bones (andariels) fire pentagrams.

Act 2-3 also have a fair amount of gore around here and there

Act 4, well there you have your tortured souls which are pretty much the acts barrels as well as those human lamps every 2 screens or so. not to forget the shines made out of bones and the like


Now I understand how you could miss some of these, almost no one goes into the jail nowadays, they rush by it. And they hardly pay attention to the others, concentrating more on the monsters and the loot.

It sounds to me like you want more gore, not more implied demon presence.

Durance of Hate had whole pits filled with blood and bodies......Act 4 had torsos chained to pillars struggling to get free. That seems pretty evil to me.

Hmm I think it will have the same amount of demonic features that in D2 - if any changes I think less. Diablo 1 was not appealing to 10-15 year olds as d2, but were a very scary and demonic game.
Blizzard will try to get the larges appealing group, and that means less violence and people "turtoring" (less demonic too then). But the demons will be out there for sure... somewhere in the dark valley....

So are you eluding to more pentagrams, tortured bodies, and demonic creatures in D3? I'm trying to get as much info as I can get away with right now :)

Although I do agree that D1 was a lot more dark then D2, you have to look at some specific areas of D2 that really showed that old D1 darkness, such as all the Durance of Hate levels. There are bodies stacked up all over that map. Its quite fun, really.

Other then Durance, I agree, there's not much going on except corrupted animals, not including Act 4, for the most part.

Can we have like, several burtcher's rooms in D3? That would be cool.

The dark atmosphere of D1 had a lot more going for it than just bodies and gore.
The music was low-key and atmospheric, the sounds were gushy and gross, you couldn't run - only walk, and you felt like a very small guy in a big dark dungeon.

Actually from what i've seen in some of the videos are a lot more demonic type creatures. For example in the wizard video there is king leoric and all the monsters we see are skeletons and zombie-like monsters. So its looking good.

there was alot of gore in diablo 2, but i wasnt really looking at it. i think i would notice it better if it was a bit more brutal and dirty. i think it would be fun if you are walking through a lvl and you suddenly see a stack of dead bodies, and you have to smack them out of the way before you can continu. something like that would be cool
