At first I was turned off to the idea of playing a montly, or yearly fee to play StarCraft II on the new Battle.net, but then I read a post which I will now quote. This quote is what changed my mind:
Q u o t e: (if it is) a free, non-subscription game, that means every low-IQ, leet-speaking, spoilt little brat with custard for brains will be able to log in & ruin it for the grown-ups.
If it isn't subscription based I'm seriously wondering whether it'll be worth playing, purely because of all the social inadequates & imbecilic pre-pubescent dross who'll clutter up the servers.
And that right there is almost enough to make me want to pay to play.
I will not be poisoned by your bitterness.

Q u o t e: Uh.. spoiled little brats have mommies with credit cards.
Have you ever played WoW?
WoW's average maturity is still LEAGUES beyond any game on Bnet. I'd love to see even a small, yearly Bnet 2.0 fee just to weed some of the stupid kids out.

Do you have any idea of how many children play World of WarCraft? I know. I was there. It's in the millions, and that was for $15 a month. Kids now and days squeeze their parents for everything their best friend has.
You have no chance.
Make your time.
Man, I hate to sound cynical, but all pay4bnet threads are starting to sound like goatbait.
Pay or not, there will be retarded low-IQ individuals in the game. Look at World of Warcraft for example. I'm still boggled how those type of people managed to get $15 a month to pay for the game.
Q u o t e: what I will say is that a player who goes to retail and buys the Starcraft 2 box at retail will have the full Starcraft 2 game included in the box and they will have the ability to play on battlenet with no additional fee.
Q u o t e: All you guys are saying it would be stupid not to have a fee to weed out the stupids.
You do realize that having a monthly fee on servers you provide is stupid, right?
That's like me asking you guys to pay me for cleaning my room. But hey, if that weeds out the stupid maids, that's a good thing?
Solid analogy, "Clean my room". You're one of the dumb kids.
Like others have said, any sort of fee would ensure better, more regular patching and that's good for anyone who can pony up a few dollars a year. Not so good for kids w/o access to a credit card but great for everyone who doesn't have to deal with said kids.
