Okay ive been thinking about this for so long, but now I have a chance to express my idea since a new patch is coming out :)
First of all, We all know that Gems arent very useful ever since runes came out, exept for maybe few crafting and cubing things. In Second place seeing high lvls having the same gear and resemble like twins, is one of the reasons that made me stop playing diablo 2.
What if at the place of having a normal enigma you could use a perfect gem the spice up your non-cool armor to a very sexy red one?! Or get a all blue sorc, blood tursty, all-red barbarian? or even a all multicolor necro lol.
I mean if we could be able to customize items with colors that would be a very nice and new feature to game IMO.
Good idea?!
thanks

Q u o t e: If you care about colors, then don't use runewords. You can have an all blue character with ease.

It's implied that he cares both about asthetics and usability. He's aware that there are multi-coloured items in the game already; he wants this to be brought to items that don't stink.

Q u o t e: Introduce new recipe: item + 4 pgms - change item color, it would also raise pgms' value a bit.
Yeah, new recipes to change equipment's color using gems is THE idea.
I thought about it too.
Also, if we could use some formulae to make items appear ethereal in the character's animation (including hirelings) would be nice. Currently only the Assassin's Fade can do this.
And, I was just thinking now, if we could make the armor appears in a absolute color like, pure black, pure white etc to make the character appear like a shadow it would be nice too.
Glad to see ppl are approving this Idea, I was hoping if any of blizzards staff checks out the forums to hock-up with players ideas.
I also really think of being able to personize our characters color would give a big kick in the ass to d2, introducing a NEW feature for users will spice up b.net
I really hope they do take a close attention to these forums ;)

Could make it a quest reward, like the "Anya's Personalize Item" quest. Add a quest in Act 4 where the reward is a color enchantment. Drop your item on the anvil and have a slider (or two) to adjust the hue and saturation of your item. Could be a bit fun to so this with set items so low level kids won't bug you about trading your signature colored items like Sigon's or Corpsemourne.
I think there may be an opportunity in the future for another content patch. You may be too late for this patch, but this idea is pretty original.

It's a good idea, but in my opinion there are more important things that should be done with Diablo II, such as patching hacks, that should take precedence over 'fluff' additions such as your idea for improved character outfit customization.
You may want to repost this in the Suggestions forum, so that it will have a better chance to be seen.
