Here's an idea. If the game mechanics are anything like they were in diablo 2 and before you create a game you get to choose the game name, password, description, and level level requirements; why not just add "Allow pvp" as another check box like the level requirements?

teambased tournaments could be very great. since its more about teamplaying and less about charskills and items. the more effective teamplaying is and the players skill with his char, the more funny this game will be in pvp.
I didn't like the old pvp style where you just needed to skill and gear your char this special way to own as much as possible. As someone said already no one liket to pvp because everyone knew if he will lose or win before the fight started.

I agree that the old DIablo 2 dueling system was an abomination. Any time the person you're staring down is the same level, same skill level, and roughly same quality items can completely decimate you without even trying there are some serious game design flaws. There was no real check or balance system for Diablo 2 PVP because it isn't designed for fighting other people.

Secondarily, I would have to say that there are too many people who would rather not get stabbed in the back while they're trying to level up. Either a setup where you can pre-assign a game as PVP enabled/Disabled, Or a "Click to agree to terms of the fight" button. There are a lot of little things that will make the experience easier on everyone, not just the hardcore players who like to pick on the casuals. To be honest, I would like to see seperation realms (similar to wow yes start the flaming) where you can choose to either be on a "I can attack you at random" or a "You have to agree first" realm. I always played the PVP realms myself, but I think everyone should have a choice as to how they would rather play the game.

That particular system is highly unlikely to make it into an ARPG hack N slash like Diablo, but hey, worth a try right?

And the Heavens shall tremble.

PvP was fun in D2.

Character imbalances have nothing to do with how the actual PvP system works.

It added an extra challenge for PvM.

This has been discussed over and over. People's perceptions are set in stone on this one.

Blizzard modifying the Diablo series by eliminating PK, is like Ford modifying the Mustang to look and perform like a minivan.

I think we beat this topic into the ground somewhere around October 2008. I even wrote a damn essay on it. Can we let sleeping dogs lie please?

Made with bits of real nightsaber.

Can't you people do anything on your own? Why do you insist on having pointless tournaments and more teams. Teams teams teams, that's all you idiots talk about.

I want more team based things so I never have to leave the side of my but buddies, blah blah blah. teams, groups, teams, blah blah blah. Shut the hell up.

Screw teams, screw tournaments. It's not entertaining in World of Warcraft, it won't be entertaining in Diablo 3.

PvP in diablo 2 was perfect, you weren't forced to group with a bunch of morons, it wasn't a scheduled routine, you just joined a game, and dominated. It was fast paced and entertaining. They shouldn't change anything about it.

Adding more PvP content would be fine, as long as it's not a pointless scheduled tournament where you're forced to work with a group. If that's what you want you should try a different game, I would suggest world of friendship, google it.

I wasnt much of a PvPer in d2 mostly because the system sucked badly. Hopefully this time around it will be worth doing. Allowing/disallowing in your game sounds good to me. When just lelveling I dont want any trouble. Byt I enjoy a good duel every once in a while. Nice if they allow poeple to play in teams aswell this could add another level of tactics to the duels.

I like your suggestion, though I can't imagine ever using the option, since I've never cared much for the high level griefing--I mean pvp of Diablo 2...
