If you've successfully installed StarCraft, but it won't launch, you'll need to patch StarCraft in order for it to work. Make sure you read the "How to Install" document that is in the patch download.

If you run into problems or you wish to install the Carbon version of the game see the instructions below to patch manually. Patches for all our games may be found on our patch site - http://www.blizzard.com/patches/.

NOTE: If you have an expansion set installed for a game, use only the patch appropriate for the expansion set. In this case you do not need the patch for the original game. Do not install patches intended for expansion sets into game folders which do not have the expansion data installed in them.

To install a patch manually:

How to Install:

For players using StarCraft installed using the original CD set, use the following patch instructions:

1) Find the Starcraft folder on your hard drive, and open it.
2) Drag all the files from the "Brood War v1.16 OSX" folder into the Starcraft folder.
3) Transfer any maps you wish to keep from the "Maps" folder found in the Starcraft folder to the "RENAME ME Maps" folder.
4) Delete your "Maps" folder from the Starcraft folder.
5) Rename your "RENAME ME Maps" folder to "Maps" (minus the quotes).
6) Select the Starcraft file in your Starcraft folder.
7) Choose Make Alias from the File Menu.
8) Move the new alias file to the Desktop or Dock
9) Double click the Starcraft alias to play.

For players using StarCraft installed using the 1.15.2 digital installer, use these patch instructions:

1) Find the Starcraft folder on your hard drive, and open it.
2) Drag all the files from the "Brood War v1.16.1 OSX" folder into the Starcraft folder.
3) Transfer any maps you wish to keep from the "Maps" folder found in the Starcraft folder to the "RENAME ME Maps" folder.
4) Delete your "Maps" folder.
5) Rename your "RENAME ME Maps" folder to "Maps" (minus the quotes).
6) Double click the Starcraft (Carbon) application to play.

If you still have problems after you patch manually, please let us know.

The universe is already insane. Anything else would be redundant.

How come the .mpq patches downloaded via battle.net have never been made into patches for Starcraft?

I guess there is no way to get around that, but to buy a Mac without GMAX3100 chipset.
