We are looking to gather some good questions aimed specifically at the developers of StarCraft II about their experience in developing the game. Fun questions are a plus. Submit your questions to this thread and there is a chance they may be selected to be added in a special video interview with the developers. Feel free to shoot out questions to all parts of the team: Production, Design, Art, Programming, QA, etc.
Please avoid specific gameplay type questions or other questions better suited for our traditional Q&A batches.
I've always wondered about all the specific steps it takes in the process of making a new unit. Everything from concept to first sketch to getting it modeled and animated into the game to creating special effects to giving it a voice or sound.
It would be really awesome if a video could be made showing a unit being made. It could be like a new unit made just for the purpose of showing the process of making it. (Which means you don't have to really balance it or spend any real time on it, and throw it in the map editor afterwords ;) )
I think the video part would be too much to ask for... But that's my question.
A lot of people seem to think that in-house testing is a fun and easy job. It seems to me that it would be a lot more tedious and difficult than most people think. How tedious and/or fun would you say it is to actually be an in-house tester?
These are just a few questions I am curious about...
Artist Questions:
What courses in high-school/college did you find most helpful to your career?
For a beginning artist looking into working on the Blizzard Art Team what are some qualifications or college credits are you guys looking for specifically?
Is there anything one can do too improve their chances of getting a job at Blizzard?
Internship Questions:
For the internships how many do you usually accept a year and is there a good time to apply for them?
What do the interns typically do during the day?
Is it possible to get a internship the summer before your freshmen year in College?
Personal Questions:
How do you go about keeping the games a secret to your families?
Are you allowed to tell them a limited amount of information?
Are you guys aware of all the projects being worked on at Blizzard or just your individual project?
Why did you choose Blizzard as the company to work for?
How close are the development teams do you guys interact during the breaks or outside of work at all?
My question has probably been asked many times, but we still have not got a very satisfying answer for it -as far as I'm concerned-.
Are there any plans for a Fourth race in a future expansion or so? I know this idea was dismissed early in the development of SC2 in order to keep the solid balance SC is famous for. However did the Dev's venture deeply in that idea at all or simply is its' dismissing final?
