Well I figured I'd start a guesstimate thread for everyone to post what they think the minimum and recommended specs will be.
IF THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND DELETE THIS
Here is mine:
------------------
| Minimum |
-----------------
CPU: 2.4 Pentium 4 or better; AMD equivalent
GPU: 256mb ATI or 256mb Nvidia card
RAM: 1GB
Space : 6-10GB
--------------------------
| Recommended | - Higher side
--------------------------
CPU: 3.4 Pentium 4 or AMD equivalent; 2.0 Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalent
GPU: 512mb ATI or 512mb Nvidia card - This is probably too high, thoughts?
RAM: 2GB+
Space: 6-12GB (full install?)

A more ad hoc answer would be because the issue was brought up on the recent fake rumor Blizzard would launch the game this Christmas. It included information on minimum specs and that arose some curiosity it seems. Of course, the fact specs haven't been published yet doesn't seem to detract people from asking about them. As if we knew...
The answer you didn't ask for is because starting some 10 years ago, system specs have become a major factor in game enjoyment due to the fact developing companies push the machines to their limit without very little regard for what is actually the general computer park. Game magazines and websites have forced this situation. But companies are to be blamed too. So... there is a justifiable concern Diablo 3 may not run on their machines. And they need to know if they should worry.

To give us poor people adequate time to save up for a new computer by the time D3 comes out.
Don't skimp out on graphics too much for slow computers. Money can always buy us a new computer, but we can only hope for a great game like D3 to be a masterpiece in graphics.

good question. Another good one would be why do people make duplicate thread after duplicate thread?(there are about 5 separate spec related threads on the first page, as well as ones on other topics).

your question is already answered... because sometimes the duplicate threads get a blue post like this thread did.

Another question is why are people so bothered by repeats of certain questions or ideas?
Are they hogging up all your intarwebz?
I think the question is a good one, although not at a good time. Many games are designed entirely differently and can hog up more resources than is necessary. My answer would be that the OP's specs would most likely be okay. Blizzard likes to lower the requirements even at the cost of graphics just to accommodate for people with sub-par computers.
The official requirements probably would be released towards the completion of the development. (you don't know how tired you will be after a race until you are almost done with it.)

I don't see how it affects you enough so that you care about it

My video card has died... I had to manually shut off the v-ram and some of the drivers (like a psudo-safe-mode)... I am trying to decide if it is worth buying a video card (it's not if I'll need an intal mac to run DIII and SCII anyway)

It's not a big deal, and I know Blizzard can use which topics are repeated most through duplicate threads as a gage for what we are concerned about. But I also think that Blizzard could see what we care about more if people instead of making their own thread, replied to one about the same topic and voiced their opinions/concerns there.
I guess it would be easier to read mulitple short threads about one topic than one long one about it...
Please don't read too far into this, it is not much of a concern for me; it's spring break and I'm not doing anything; I would go skate, but my left ankles being lame.
I only made the comment because it was slightly annoying when going to see if there are any illuminating blue posts or interesting topics or discussions on the forums, and instead I found 5 or 6 threads about "will D3 run on my computer." Then the ordinary art direction discomfort rehash of people who just recently started to follow D3 news.
This howvever did and won't ruin my day, I do realize multiple threads on the same topic can serve a purpose; but it just seems unnecessary to me when it could be handled by just making one thread longer.
Q u o t e: Why is everyone obsessing over system specs right now?
People are buying or thinking of buying new PCs and Laptops so they want to be sure that what they buy will be able to run D3 fairly well. At least thats what im kind of worried about. Im buying a new laptop in august/september and I will want to be able to run D3 on max settings. And Im not buying an extreme gaming laptop..

Aww come on. Let me tell you it's a lot of fun. :D
I have a Intel Q9450 (quad core desktop processor), 4GB RAM, SLI 8800M GTX, a 17" 1900x1200 screen, and three 250GB hard drives in Raid-0. I love this thing to death.

I believe you but since I am no longer interested in games apart from D3 (because of the memories :)) i do not need a PC like that and would rather invest that money in other things..
Building PCs is fun tho..

but, but, but....
fiiiinne :(
On topic: I don't think anyone really needs to worry about specifics. I think you would be able to get a computer that can run Diablo 3 on full settings for around $300 if it turns out you can't run it.
