  • 0. Fog of war bug in ROC, date related?   03/03/2009 02:32:16 PM PST
I first noticed this change in behavior beginning on January 1, 2009... and confirmed it on my Daughter's copy of WC3, ROC as well.

When playing against the computer in single player or local area network gaming, the computer can always see your base and units, anywhere on the map, as well as your allies. This did not used to happen - the computer had to creep for you, and could not go directly to you from anywhere.

I would appreciate it if somebody would confirm this on their copy as well. You can do this by selecting a large multiplayer map, build units and wait for them to come. They will no longer creep, but will head straight to your base. They will do this immediately if you do not level up your hero, or outbuild them quickly (Just build a hero and stand there... they will come directly from their base).

Furthermore, if you do the cheat to see them, you can see their behavior as they stalk you on the map - clearly they have no fog of war anymore.

It makes playing them on insane nearly impossible now - and it used to be fun.

Thanks,

FE6

I wish they would have an super-duper-crazy-insane-unbeatable-without-cheating difficulty.

Because insane is just too damn easy.

Well, this answered your prayers then!

Because now they stalk you all over the map, know exactly what you have built, and can see all your bases, and go right to them!

It has always been like this. The easiest way to make them go straight for you is building a fast expansion.

Hmmmm.... I don't think so. I would've noticed that years ago. Also, in TFT it still doesn't happen. It's only in ROCIII, and only since Dec 31, 2008.

This is new behavior.

Melee against a computer, or even several computers if you're good enough, no matter what the game....is boring. Seriously, why would you play vs the computer when they're so predictable. Nothing beats playing another human being....at least then you've accomplished something. VS CPU play gets boring after once or twice. (unless of course you're trying out new strats/testing build times/etc.....seriously tho...play against someone...even if you get slaughtered, it's still more fun than vs a CPU..

Just my opinion. My brother plays vs computer all the time...I never understood it. Too predictable.

Yes, and she's only 11 which is why I prefer they fix this, I won't let her play online, she's too young, and there are some really crude people out there. I got her the frozen throne warchest (both games) xmas of 2007 - she'd been playing my copy since she was 8. She's pretty certain it happened January 1st 2009. And TFT still doesn't do this. The bug is only in WC3 ROC.

Also, I like to play WC3 when I fly, on my laptop, and I can't play online then - it's just against the computer, or replaying the campaign (boring now).

So I'd really rather they just fix the bug.

And something in the back of my mind tells me that somewhere I read how this would happen after a certain date... I am reading the manual this morning to see if that's it.
