  • 0. Unable to connect to battle-net   01/14/2009 01:23:19 AM PST
Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I have been unable to connect to Lordaeron (US.West), but however I can connect to all other realms e.g. Azeroth, Kalimdor. The error message is the "Unable to connect to Battle.net, you may be trying to connect to an invalid Battle.net server. If you are using a modem..."

I have read the temporary restrictions, and I feel sure that I have violated none of them, as I don't think I've ever logged onto Lordaeron using this network. (I am currently in Singapore for a holiday, and I just got a new ip address.) I have tried the Bnet diagnostic tool as well, and whenever I try to "resolve" uswest.battle.net" it comes up with only 1 ip. And whenever I try to "connect" it gives me error 10060.

I did a tracert.txt and it came up with

Also, there is no problem with my DNS.

I'm with Singtel at the moment, and I am using a USB modem to connect to the internet.

I hope somebody helps me soon with this, thank you.

Oh and also, I am at the Blizzard Tech support channel at this moment, in Azeroth. It says if you need technical support, please connect to US West and join this channel. What happens if you can't join US West? =\

Can somebody please help? It's been over 4 days, which is what the temporary restriction is supposed to be.

Hello Syaorann,

Your very first hop has a considerable spike in latency:
1 669 ms 100 ms 97 ms 10.252.142.1

An issues there should really affect all the realms so i don't think this is the cause but it should lead ty higher latency in all of the realms.

The first three hops on your traceroute are reserved for private use. Are you on a larger network like a business network, a campus, or an apartment complex that provides the connection?

Ther could be restrictions in place on the network that prevent a connection to the IPs for US-West (Lorderon).

Technical support needs your feedback. Please take the time to fill out a survey using the link below and tell me how I am doing:

Well, the first hop is your computer => your modem, so the issue lies somewhere in there.. Do you have the latest firmware for the modem?

Oh, I tried playing offline...and

the results were

Lordaeron: took a long time to come up with the error message
The rest of the servers were pretty instant, like 3 second it says connecting, then it gets the error message.

On the othe rhand, lordaeron just takes a long ass time.

It's also possible that you may be restricted, as stated previously. Download the Diagnostic Tool created by Win32, below:

Extract the files and then execute the program inside.

First, type in "resolve *realm.battle.net" without the quotation marks. If you get many ip's, then that works.

The second test is to type this:
"connect *realm.battle.net" without the quotation marks.

Now, post the contents of Log.txt in a reply to this thread so it can be reviewed.

*: Change this with your realm. For example, useast.battle.net.

Did that trace route finish? It appears your last result is in Australia, which means you'd still have 200ms to go until you reach USWest - and that's if you data knows where it's going.

Your trace route in general yields poor results. Is the connection shared or were there other programs running in the background? If so these may interfere with the result. Additionally, auto-updates can download in the background as well. Basically anything that downloads data may give you bad results.

An error of 10060 is "Connection Timed Out". You may have a firewall blocking bnetdiag or it could have just took a long time to reach USWest.

I see, I will run the test again.

And yeah, I know the error means I have a firewall blocking. But I checked all my firewalls and they were all turned off.

Hi Ghostray,

I have verified you have an extended temporary restriction on your connection. This issue will happen as a result of (but not limited to) the following:

- Rapidly connecting and disconnecting to Battle.net
- Creating or joining numerous games within a short time period
- By the use of "add-on programs"
- Chat channel abuse
- Failed login attempts
- In game latency caused by excessive spell effects
- Spamming text in the chat channel (often associated with bots)
- Repeated attempts to use an invalid CD-Key
- Repeated use of third-party programs (hacks) – these include but are not limited to sending bad packets, flooding the server(s), and the use of hack programs

Restrictions of this nature can last from several days up to two weeks (yours appears to be the latter, probably used a bad/invalid/hacked cd-key). Technical Support does not have access to the reason a specific restriction was put in place or the length of time the restriction is for. We also do not have the ability to remove the restriction. The only thing I can recommend is trying to connect every couple of days to see if the restriction has lifted (this will not extend your restriction).

Okay, I can only get 1 IP whenever I try to resolve uswest, and it comes up with the ip of

202.60.88.234

And I can't connect to the server as well, it comes up with the firewall error, even though all my firewall is turned off.

Everything is turned off, only the bnet diagnostic tool, and my network connection of course.

Okay, I tried playing on Lordaeron in another place, my cousins.

Unfortunately, I still could not connect to Lordaeron, even with another IP.

So...what would that mean?

And also, I cannot do the connect uswest.battle.net, it takes a long time which is why I suspect Error 10060 comes up.

You'll need to configure your router and/or any firewalls you may have. You can learn how to do so here:
Please note that disabling your firewall will not cut it.

That post doesn't really help me as I have looked through it and tried turning off my firewalls.

Is there anyway you can log on to east and I can contact you about this problem?
