Mac Starcraft Stuck Mouse Cursor

I've received a few reports of a stuck mouse cursor in the top left corner on Starcraft. This issue seems specific to Leopard, but we haven't received enough system information to narrow down which kind of Macs are experiencing this issue.

If you are experiencing this issue, please be sure that you are running the latest version of Leopard (Apple > Software Update). Also be sure that you've installed the latest patch for Starcraft, 1.15.2:
http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21153

Please post the following information from your System Profile (Go > Utilities > System Profiler):

Hardware (remove the Serial Number line)
Graphics/Displays
Software (remove the Computer Name and User Name lines)

Any non-Mac posts will be deleted. Thanks!

Update! I've received some reports that playing in a window prevents the cursor from displaying. To use windowed mode, press Command+M while in game.

  • 1. Mac StarCraft and Diablo 2 fail to load   10/06/2008 01:16:39 PM PDT
All,

We've received a handful of reports from users with the newest (2-26-08) revision of the MacBook Pros and an inability to start up Diablo 2 and StarCraft.

The StarCraft Startup Options and the Diablo 2 Options screens will appear, but after pressing Ok, the games close and do not load.

Currently, we are still investigating this issue and I'll provide updates here once more information is received. Until then, please use this thread to report your system information if you are experiencing this issue.

Please post the following information from your System Profile (Go > Utilities > System Profiler):

Hardware (remove the Serial Number line)
Graphics/Displays
Software (remove the Computer Name and User Name lines)

Thanks!

Update!

We are currently in discussion with Apple about this issue and hope to have a resolution soon. Currently, the only work around is to install Windows on a separate partition and run StarCraft or Diablo 2 through Windows.

  • 2. Mac Support for OS 9 on SC Bnet   10/06/2008 01:17:58 PM PDT
Version 1.15.3 of StarCraft resolves an incompatibility with Mac OS X video drivers which do not support 256-color display mode, such as 10.5.3/10.5.4 running on the 2008 MacBook and MacBook Pro systems.

As previously announced in April 2007, this patch can only be applied on Mac OS X systems (version 10.3.9 or higher). Mac OS 9 systems will not be able to run Version 1.15.3, but please keep in mind that Mac OS 9 users will still be able to play in single player mode and on a LAN with other players running older versions of the game.

I have Diablo II LoD (Carbon) and it always crashes seconds after I have clicked on the icon, not even the options screen appears; it used to run OK before (while I still had Mac OS Leopard), but after an update it won't run anymore :(

Check this out:
http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=20233

I downloaded that little file, put it in the Diablo II folder and launched the game from it. This made the game work fine for me, and it doesn't even patch anything, so you will still have the old version of the game, in case it gets fixed anyway.

Many thanks to whoever made this fix, now I can finally play Diablo II :D

It was made by Blizzard as far as I know. It's a beta singleplayer only patch. A guy called 'rbarris' (email address is rbarris (at) blizzard.com) informed everyone about it on the macrumors forums.

Every time I try to open the LOD Carbon, it gives me an error saying:

*Diablo II closed on an unexpedted error.

Ignore, Report, Relaunch*

I tried downloading it again, I tried everything. Does anybody know why it won't work?

  • 10. Re: Mac Issues   12/16/2008 05:48:26 AM PST
It doesn't work because Apple broke it. The drivers released in 10.5.3 do not support the 256 colour mode that Diablo relies on.

I haven't tried it yet, but OS X 10.5.6 is out and has some graphic changes (Apple Menu->Software Update). I don't know if 256 colour mode has returned to the drivers, but it may be worth a shot. I'll give it a go later and let you know.

256 colours is still absent from 10.5.6 :S

Diablo will not work with battle.net.

If you are interested in playing singleplayer, use the link posted above to the beta patch.

The map editor renaming triggers is a know bug. If you use a mouse click to complete a rename, it will crash. Until a fix is found, use only the keyboard to rename them. Basically start a rename with the mouse, and when you're finished, hit the return key. Although it's inconvenient, this method should work. Also remember to save often.

I remember a long thread about the Diablo issue, but i cannot find it anywhere. Is there any news concerning the release-date of 1.13? I just dont get why there is no fix, though it seems not that difficult to program it. (compare above)

Im having trouble installing diablo 2. I downloaded the navigation link from blizzards website. Once i click download diablo 2 it tells me to insert the install disc. I do that and it spits it right back out a few seconds later. The disc is good. Im using Leopard 10.5. Please help

What files are on your CD? Do they end with .exe, .dll, .mpq etc? If they do, your CD is one of the early PC-only ones (it's not hybrid) and will not work with the installer. What you can do is create yourself a blizzard account and register the CDKey online and download the Mac version. You can do this from here
http://www.blizzard.com/account

Once you've made your account, head to the My Games section and add a game via CDKey.

This method is the quickest and cheapest resolution.
