I'm sure many people are wanting to merge servers already but multiple servers were created for about 3 reasons. While the European server is practically dead, many people are piling up on USEast. It doesn't exactly matter if someone lags or not, latency should be considered because many, many people have latency issues to where they can't host no matter what. Also, what if you were temporary banned from the merged server? Well you got a dead European server and a Asian server full of koreans which only few of them speak English at least. So also communication is going to be a problem as well. People will probably be pulled into the ICCup server because of the hack-free community AND it also solved some latency issues for people plus it includes ladder and Blizzard doesn't allow people to connect to servers other than Blizzard's servers. So sure Blizzard does save money if people run to ICCup because Blizzard uses less bandwidth right? I'd like you to try to host on a european or asian server and see how many people will come to your game.
