OK, so I've been playing SC:BW for a few weeks now, haven't managed to beat the AI more than once.
A friend told me that you should play online to get the best experience.
Now, is it being cocky to think that the very first match I play, I shouldn't die in the first seven minutes?

I used /stats playername to find out info about my chosen opponent and he came up as being a 0-0-0.
I took that to mean he was a noob like me.

We start playing, I think it was some kind of Jungle Temple?, and I get smashed by 5 Vulcans (are they those terran bike things??) at the 7 minute mark.

Up until that point, I was using a build order I'd read about, (can't remember name), where you
build two gateways, a Citadel of Anun and a Forge and then do lots of zealots, give then some sword power and make them move quicker.

I got the buildings up and running, but he smashed me before I could upgrade.

Is that normal, for a n00b?? Do I just need to hone my skills?? Or do i need to study up on build orders and how to execute them perfectly??

Any help is appreciated :D
