I would say that there are layers of corruption within drug companies and insurance companies that render this question pretty much irrelevant. One way or another, it's a smokescreen, or a xanatos gambit, or a side question to a much larger problem.
I've found doctors to be fabulously worthless when it comes to my own health. I've had plenty of nasty sicknesses, and I always recover by just waiting it out. The few times I've visited them I've gotten the equivalent of a shrug out of them. It doesn't help that I've known several average-intelligence people become doctors. I just don't think they have very much to say. It's not a 'profession' any more. It's just a career. With the way information availability is changing in the past decade, I'd say that's becoming more and more true every day.
