  • 0. Extracting a WC3 key OR registry repair   06/10/2009 11:25:40 AM PDT
Short story: My computer screwed up my profile awhile ago, had to transfer everything over to a new profile, but apparently the registry isn't fully fixed... so WC3TFT WORKS, but it doesn't want to patch due to a registry error...

So I need to reinstall the game. I've been playing without the CD for so long though I have no clue where the jewel case is. Found the box oddly but not the cd case, go figure. This means to play online, I need to either A: find the case (good luck, room's a mess >.> ) or find some way to just get the key back since the game's already installed and running fine off the key that's already been entered in.

Problem is, the only way I can find to do this supposedly, is to use a 3rd party program... which isn't going to happen, since most of those will probably just send the key back to the originator once it has it, trying to prevent myself from having to buy yet another copy (this'd be my 3rd or 4th now?), not guarantee the need to...

So... is there any way to actually extract the CD key from an installed WC3 copy which works perfectly fine other than a registry issue preventing a patch update?

Of course, if anyone knows whot information needs to be in the registry in order to allow for patching, I could go back and type it all in manually, whichever works.
