Just a heads up if you are running windows 8 beta/preview/rc, you can in fact still run Diablo II, its simple and doesn't require a patch same as the fix for windows 7 rc, right click your shortcut to diablo 2, go down to Properties in the tab Compatibility Select "Windows 98" for the mode, and then go to the tab Shortcut at the text input Target, place a -w after the final Quotations mine for example says "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w -skiptobnet
and you can once again play Diablo 2, remember this also in the future for later releases of the windows OS
