No, rare =/= impossible to find. If other players can get an item from a random drop, then so can you.
Did you realize you can use the RMAH without spending any real money? You could easily buy items from the RMAH without spending anything. Just sell a few items with the weekly free postings. Take the profit and use it to buy what you need.
Sorry sorry. Rare == near impossible to find. Fixed.
I do realize I can use the RM AH without spending any real money, and I addressed it previously in this very thread. I'll copy and paste the conversation for you.
Q u o t e: You are absolutely right I would assume. High valued items will not show up frequently on the gold ah. However, what is stopping you from using the RMAH just like the gold ah. Sell your items for RM until you have say, $100. Then use that $100 and trade it for items. Essentially with no deposits or withdrawals, it becomes exactly the same as gold, except for the fact that you would have the option of having the $100 instead of $100 worth of gear.
I'm not saying that you will find this a valid alternative, I was just wondering the reasoning behind not using this method, as it is certainly what i will be doing. It's quite possible that it may be a morals thing which I am unaffected by, but understand if you are. Other than morals i can't think of anything off the top of my head unless you are unable to fight the urge to pull out your funds when you receive them instead of use them to get the items.
My response:
I agree that I could use the RM AH just like the gold AH and be just fine, play like I normally do. But, it's more than that. It's the fact that the Diablo franchise is about competitive spirit. I played because I wanted to be better at PvE and PvP than everyone else. This is the reason a lot of people play, and is one of the main reasons I play. Being able to buy all the best stuff will enable people to leapfrog past me. Regardless of if I use the RM AH as a normal AH and rack up money, I'll never do it as quickly as someone willing to max out their credit card.
Who is going to be better? The person willing to spend $500 and buy everything without doing a single thing in the actual game? Or the person spending 40 hours in front of the computer who only racks up $100 worth of RM AH money?
