Q u o t e: The OP is basing his concerns on way too many assumptions.
So D2's gear system was flawed. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. But that doesn't mean D3 will have the same flaws. They should work on polishing the gear system, not padding the game with more levels because they're afraid the gear system will fail.
This has very little to do with the gear system.
Q u o t e: What are you talking about? What game has you start at a level cap? Since D3 will obviously have you start at lvl 1 or 0, why even bring it up here?
If you have ever played a MMO you know that reaching maximum level is easy. Getting geared takes weeks/months. That is when the game /begins/ for most people. I did not mean that you start from 60. Assuming I thought so is silly.
Q u o t e: They're not just copying the leveling curve from D2. How do you know it won't take a month to get to 60?
After 10 years of playing D2 and many years developing D3, I certainly hope they can come up with better end game options than more leveling and gear grinding. They didn't make the level cap 60 so we can get the gear grinding sooner. No, they made the level cap 60 so it's easier for us to get to brand new end game features.
If it takes a month, that is still less than it would take to get to 91 or so on classic diablo 2. I care little about the fact the game goes to 60. I care a lot about how easy they say that will be to attain.

Quote from Blizz.
''We can have long term status symbols people can go for that are extremely visual ''
Extremely visual sounds good. About these, Are there any extremely visual status effects
or ingame animations/ looks that would have to be worked for? Let me elaborate! Are there any
visual things that CANNOT be purchased from an item website or a trade forum?
I wonder if this means in game or externally in chat before. Titles?
Q u o t e: Again with this? Fine! Ask yourself this...
Would you rather read a 999 pages book that seems to be going nowhere with its plot, or a 666 pages exciting book?
You're not convinced? Or maybe just not the reading type...OK, then I bet we'll have a 90 (60/75/90) level cap after the second expansion, happy now?
Again, the number does not matter. One playthrough and you are max level does.
Q u o t e:
I am all for the lvl cap of 60 for the sake of game balance. I don't want to out lvl content, and i don't want PvP to be more out of control since there is no 1 lvl that they could balance content around(balancing class power for a lvl 99 doesn't work since most people would never be 99).
However, I understand that people want to feel that they achieved something even when loot does not drop. I have a feeling that there will be something in game to achieve this goal.
How would you feel if something like this was in game: The achievement system will track many things, including, monsters killed, bosses killed, random events cleared etc. You would be rewarded with titles/armor dyes or things of that sort for hitting certain milestones. Kill 100 bosses, get title X(kinda cool title), kill 1,000 bosses get title Y(cooler title), kill 10,000 Bosses Get Title Z(awesome title) and amazing armor dye!
Edit: That doesn't help with making you feel like you are getting more powerful, but it does let you work towards something at least. If the system allowed you to become more powerful, they would run into the same problems they were trying to avoid by implementing the lvl 60 cap.
Good points; however, being level 93 and everyone else having given up at 86 is a lot better than being 60, everyone else being 60 and me having neat armor coloring. I like lofty goals.
Q u o t e: im happy with 60 as for now. Look at diablo 1.. max is 50... and how u feel about that? I feel its fine... they will probably will increase the level when expansion comes.
