This. It isn't fun. It's an obnoxious gimmick, and a game based upon loot-whoring means that you'd be setting up areas nobody would visit unless they had to in order to progress. I don't know why Blizzard would purposely make crappy areas.

But beyond that, there are environmental hazards. In Bastion's Keep, you can see the Demon Hunter knocking over a stack of barrels and they hit her, sending her flying backwards a bit and presumably she takes damage (since she goes translucent for a second). In addition to that, there's wind storms in Act II that will damage you if you get close to them. I'm sure there's other such things in the game, but I wouldn't really want anything more than that.
