What do you guys think the character screen is for?
It tells you your damage! It is very similar to the meter you want, you're able to compare your max damage output with your friend's max damage output. You can see that the damage you can do is greater than zero! Woot!

As long as the character screen doesn't lie to you, it provides exactly what you want.
