Q u o t e: Don't get me wrong, I love the dual wield crossbows aka crossbow pistols. I think it looks great, and I love the idea.
HOWEVER, in it's current implementation, the pistols are in fact ONE item, and not really true dual wielding at all, but only appear to be for animation's sake. Furthermore, both pistols shoot at the same time instead of in alternation, so they're pretty much exactly the same as a single crossbow or bow (the only difference appearing to be when you do multishot).
Since this pseudo-dual wield is quite lame, I suggest that the crossbow pistols be made to do half the damage of typical bows/crossbows and be made a single item. That way we can mix two different types of pistols together for true dual wield, or possibly even for a pistol + shield setup (which would be sweet).

I dont think the hunter will carry shields because:
1.- There will be special skills that you will have to be wearing 2 pistol cbs, for example, lets imagine, multishot, and others will require 2-handed cbs, such as, for example, bola shot, or at least thats what i understood
2.- Dual carry is always higher dps, you can take a look at WoW where the rogue or the fury warrior tear enemies appart with ease, and i bet Blizzard will make pistol cbs powerful enough to outmatch the standards
3.- Dual pistols DOESNT mean that you will have the same ones in each hand, but instead, you may carry 1 wich deals poison dmg, and the other deals fire damage, even if they were weaker overall than the big one, i bet my head that when you are on hell and monsters are immune-to-1-thing-each, you will cry out because you want to deal 3 types of damage, so nobody is immune to you
4.- i think they look cool, and if they dont feature automatic 2H crossbows they will be the new fashion^^
