i think the word nostalgia is used too losely here.. magic-users using mana is about as nostalgic as expecting a demon to be evil. it just is.
Absolutely nothing is set in stone in fantasy. If anything, it's the one genre that can do whatever it wants and start from scratch if it feels like it. I tip my hat to Blizzard for doing something new.
All I hope is for every class to have their own resource system. I'd love if the WD would have something like tapping into the Mbwiru Eikura, the sacred realm where their gods lurk, and ask for their help to augment his/her spells, and depending on which god answers, the spell would have a different effect. Or maybe collecting souls by destroying enemies and then unleashing them to make XYZ spell do something else in addition to what it usually does or just flat out more damage depending on the number of souls you had stored. Anything to make it more interesting than just plain ol' mana. If that's all the WD has, I'll be jealous of the wizard.
