Q u o t e:
I wonder. How does having a guild in a game like Diablo work exactly? Seeing as how the number of people that can join a game is very limited, what's the benefit of having a guild? I don't see how there would be any game content or features that cannot be as easily accessed with a pug. I mean, you can solo the game. Ok, you can trade items with people you are sure you can trust and get good a deal, but if you only trade with guild members that's a very limited market.

Please don't take my reaction as scepticism. I'm merely being curious.

When I play a game thousands or millions of other people play, it's nice to be able to log on knowing I have a family of familiar on-line friends and acquaintances to associate with. Being in a guild helps this. Well, rather than logging on and finding yourself not having anyone to talk to or trust and when or where someone you've previously met in a game will be. Pugs are fine, but I am sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to game with a different group of people I don't know every single time I want to do something. It's nice to say I got people, like in the Verizon Wireless commercials. ;-)

Guilds provide help for one another. They give you a feeling of familiarity. If there is a decent member base in a guild, you'll always have someone familiar to talk or game with.Nobody wants to be alone among millions (maybe eventually) of people in Diablo 3.

Guilds also provide a trusting environment among its members. Would you thrown down an epic weapon among 10 strangers? Probably not. In a game of 10 guild members, however, chances of someone picking up that item and stealing it are much more slim (hopefully). Actions like that would most likely result in being kicked from the guild. Meaning your on your own now. Go find other people to talk and game with.

I'm sure Diablo 3 isn't going to be as easy as Diablo 2 is now. In Diablo 2 one can get from level 1 to like 85 in only a few days and aquire the best of the best gear for their character super easily. Diablo 3 will not be like that. At least not for a long time anyways I hope. After the release of Diablo 3, I'm sure leveling and gearing will be much easier if in a guild, similar to World of Warcraft.

So yes, being in a guild has many benefits. Nobody said anything about restricting members of a guild to ONLY trading to guild members. When you have an item, it's yours. Do what you want with it. What's the fun in soloing an mmorpg? If that's the case, why not just play single player then?

PS. Don't get me wrong, not being in a guild is perfectly fine. One who isn't in a guild is probably capable of doing anything someone in a guild can do. In my opinion, guilds make the game much more fun. They also provide a website to which members can communicate with each other and websites like this can also provide help with the game in many ways.
