(Let's pretend for a moment that runewords do not rule LoD.)
If there were only level requirements on armor, what would keep a sorceress from running around wearing Medusa's Gaze? (10% Chance To Cast Level 7 Lower Resist When Struck - you know I would be all over that @%!%)
What? The fact that there will be a lot more better stats for wizard in the light armors..
Q u o t e: What's so bad about a wiz using a big maul? What if they're melee-focused? Itemization is key to enabling people to come up with all kinds of cool and insane builds. The items have to support a build or else it just won't be viable.
Big maul and wizard? Obvious sign of a fool playing.. don't party with him! Melee-focused wizard will choose melee spells from his/hers skill tree. If you haven't noticed wizard has a defensive/melee offensive skill tree in the early designs, she can summon blades to fight for her etc. Imo that is the way a caster class should fight melee.. not with some stupid big ass weapons.
Or if wizard is able to wield bigass weapons and heavy armors.. it should then disable his spell casting completely like in D&D, yeah have fun then with your so funny 2h axe.
