First off, no, I'm not a crazy lore fan. In fact I hardly know anything about the lore of Diablo besides just knowing the game stories of both titles. I've only read the first book in the diablo series, and that was like 3 years ago and I don't remember jack from it. Now that that's all cleared up, here's my idea >.>.
I always wanted them to do this in Diablo 2, and I'm hoping they put this in D3.
Whenever you find a set or unique item you can go to the primary item identifier NPC (I'm assuming it's Cain, but many things change), and that person can offer you a little backstory on the set that your set item is from, or your unique item. Nothing extensive, just an optional little backstory describing where it came from, who wielded it/forged it, where was it used, what great battles it was in (if any). Stuff like that.
They could make it so even if you happen to identify your item with a scroll there's still an option in the NPC menu like "Stories" or "Item Histories", that lists all current unique items or pieces of sets you have in your inventory or stash (or both). And all you'd have to do to hear the story is just select which item you want to hear about, or which set you want to learn about. Perhaps it could even catalog them in the menu, so even if you sell the item or trade it off its story will still be there if you wanna read about it again.
It's just a shame with all the uniques and sets in the game that there is little to no lore about them and where they came from. I for one would like to know why these items are unique or where in the hell these sets came from and who the hell are these people who have their names on them.
Whaddya think?
