Q u o t e:
One pay-for idea that specifically relates to Diablo that I thought was kind of interesting was the chance to resurrect a fallen hardcore character.

I think this was mentioned by a fan, as far as I know we're not even thinking about these types of pay-for options yet. But, I think it's kind of interesting. I'm not sure if I like the idea or not, which is probably why I like thinking about it. There are some obvious pros and some obvious cons, but I'm not sure there's a clear cut answer as to whether it would work well or not.

I really do not like this idea. I have tried, many times unsuccessfully, to get more players to try Hardcore. Most make it to perhaps level 6 before dying, and quit.

It really is a difficulty level that most people will only attempt after mastering the game in Softcore.
If you remove one of the major draws of Hardcore (i.e. bragging rights, a feeling of satisfaction that your survival skills are good, quick reflexes, etc) then you may as well remove Hardcore entirely.

It would be interesting to see how Hardcore would work in Diablo III. However, seeing as how we know relatively little about the game yet....

That actually does bring something to mind- I remember reading several weeks ago, a comment, suggestion or rumor that specific enemies and some attacks from players would be Fatality-type abilities, instantly killing the target. Along the lines of that VERY large enemy in the video, with the metallic claws and armored torso, tearing the barbarian apart.

If there is indeed a system like this in the game, Hardcore would DEFINITELY be much more interesting.
