To address the idea of automatically assigning health, and allowing the player to choose all the other stats... props on that one. The problem I see with it is that it would be very hard to determine a good amount of health for characters to gain at each level.

Does a barb gain more health than a wizard per level? It seems to make sense that he would, but then the wizards would feel gimped because they only get the same amount of other stat points to assign while getting less health.

What if all characters get the same much health? Sure a melee barb could get health bonuses from his melee gear, but then couldn't a wizard have the same health bonuses? Then the only difference between the two characters if they assign their stats the same is their skills. What would you choose, a melee char with slow time to beat the crap out of the now slow enemies, or another char with ground stomp? Both would do the same damage from melee then.

After typing this I've realized I don't like my arguments. But I won't delete them because I spent time typing them.

Q u o t e:

Everyones all upset because they are "taking" another option away from the player. They are making everyones BASE stats the same. And if you looked on battle.net I'm sure 95% of characters have their BASE stats in the same way give or take 10 stat points in each place. (Ex: 50 Str, 15 Dex, Rest Vit, No Energy)

So either you guys are complaining that you can't be 10 stat points different than the next person, or you are complaining for the 5% of people who have a bad character build.

I really wish that people would stop using the argument that every build in D2 has the same stats, or close to it. That is obvious and is also a result of a broken system. As people have said in the argument for autostats, you don't know what blizzard has planned etc. Hopefully blizzard will have made all the stats equally important (actually that's incredibly important especially with autostats). This would solve the problem of everyone having the same stats and making new and crazy builds a much more viable option. By that reasoning allowing the player to assign their own stats makes a lot of sense.

Just give us a toggle option on the auto stats, or show the blizz recommended stats next to the current stats your char has at a given level.

I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of having to spend 5 stat points per level with no way of taking them back. In the system they have now you get to choose what stats you want to focus on, and you get to change your mind if it isn't working right.
